Rhodiola quadrifida is a plant of the genus Rhodiola of the family Rhodiola. Distributed in Russia, India, Nepal, Sikkim, Pakistan, Mongolia and Chinese mainland Xizang, Xinjiang, Qinghai, Gansu, Sichuan and other places, growing in areas ranging from 2900 meters to 5100 meters above sea level, mostly in ditches or rock crevices on hillsides. The roots and flowers of Rhodiola quadrifida can be used to clear heat and reduce fever and benefit the lungs.

Rhodiola quadrifida

Herbs perennial, with main roots up to 18 cm long. Rhizome 1-3 cm in diam., branched, dark brown, apex scaly; old branches persistent, often above 100. Flowering stems slender, 0.5-1 mm in diameter, 4-10 (- 15) cm high, straw-colored, erect, densely leafy. Leaves alternate, sessile, linear, 4-8 (- 12) mm long, 1 mm wide. Inflorescences few, 1.2-1.5 cm wide, pedicels as long or shorter as flowers; sepals 4, linear-lanceolate, 3 mm long, 0.7 mm wide, obtuse; petals 4, purplish red, oblong-Obovate, 4 mm long, 1 mm wide, obtuse; stamens 8, as long or slightly longer as petals, filaments and anthers yellow. Scales 4, suboblong, 1.5-1.8 mm long, 0.7 mm wide. Follicles 4, lanceolate, 3-5 mm long, erect, with a short beak reflexed at apex, dark red at maturity; seeds oblong, brown, winged. The flowering period is from May to June and the fruiting period is from July to August.

In order to expand the propagation coefficient and increase the number of female plants, Rhodiola can be propagated not only by rhizome division, but also by cuttage method. This paper briefly introduces the specific conditions and methods.

Cutter: cut off the sturdy buds-free flower stem when cutting in a small amount, and cut the base of the flower stem into 45 with a sharp blade. In order to promote the rooting of cuttings, the cuttings were soaked in (10-20) X 10-6 naphthylacetic acid or 50 X I0-6 indolebutyric acid for 5-8 minutes before cutting. after taking out, the cuttings were slightly dried to remove surface water.

Cutting and management: the cutting time is mostly from mid-May to early June. Before cutting, flatten the bed first, use a stick or branch 3 cm thicker than the cuttings in diameter, then put the treated cuttings in the manhole, and then pour water through the fine hole spray pot, the cuttings are in close contact with the matrix, and then cover the plastic sheeting on the top of the arch shed, and the lower part of the plastic sheet should be compacted with the bed surface to facilitate heat preservation and moisture in the shed.

After cutting, the temperature in the bed is kept at 17: 20 ℃ and the humidity is kept above 85%. When the sun is too strong at noon, the plastic sheeting is properly covered with grass and shaded, and the bed surface is watered 2-3 times a day to keep the bed soil moist. The cuttings began to grow roots after 20-30 days, and when the new roots were 3-4 cm, the cuttings were gently dug out, first moved into the flower bed or culture bed, and then transplanted into the field after all the roots were formed. This method is not suitable for large area cultivation, the cuttings take root slowly, the aboveground part does not grow fast after transplanting, the root system is small, and some plants survive the winter because the new rhizome is not fully formed.
