Last Updated: 2024/11/05, The method of ring peeling and root replacement, that is, the ring peeling high pressure technique commonly used in the asexual reproduction of flowers and trees is used to promote the stump to send out double roots in the appropriate position of the trunk. After a period of cultivation, the original root system of the plant together with defects.

The method of ring peeling and changing roots is to apply the ring peeling high pressure technique commonly used in the asexual reproduction of flowers and trees to promote the stumps that need to be reformed to send out double roots in the appropriate position of the trunk, and after a period of cultivation, then cut off the original root system of the plant together with the defective part, so as to achieve the purpose of renewal. It is not only a new technique advocated in the whole technique of tree stump bonsai in recent years, but also a commonly used whole technique. The measures are introduced as follows.

The main results are as follows: 1. the method of girdling period and conditional girdling requires that the plant must grow healthily before the new buds sprout in spring (usually in mid-February).

Second, the required tools and equipment handsaw, splice knife, narrow chisel, hand hammer, wire pliers, barbed wire, a section of copper (or aluminum) wire with a diameter of 4MM, and the right amount of mud and sand.

Third, the surgical procedure of ring peeling and root replacement.

1) observe the whole plant, select the appropriate root change position, and mark it.

2) use a hand saw, a cutting knife and a narrow chisel to carve a groove with a width of 4 "and a depth of 3" on the root-changing position (it is not necessary to peel it completely), and it is advisable to keep the section as smooth as possible.

3) insert the copper wire or aluminum wire into the ring stripping groove and hit it with a hand hammer to make it fit the tree trunk, so that it is easy to promote new roots.

4) cut the barbed wire into a cylinder 3-5 times the diameter of the tree trunk, and the lower end is embedded in the basin (fixed through the leakage hole in the basin floor if necessary). Pay attention to making the upper end plane more than 3 inches above the girdling plane. Put a layer of coarse sand at the bottom of the cylinder, then fill it with a mixture of mud and sand, vibrate slightly before watering, and finally fill the soil to the left and right side of the ring-peeling plane.

5) keep the bonsai on a sunny and slightly shaded site for maintenance. Keep the stump at a temperature of 15-25 ℃ and humidity of 70-90% as far as possible. From June onwards, rotate the pot 180 ℃ every half a month to make the plant root evenly (be careful not to put the bonsai in a completely sunny place, otherwise it will affect the hairy root)

6) in August, you can peel off the topsoil, observe the hairy roots, and often adjust the orientation of bonsai to further promote new roots. Starting from the middle and last ten days of September, the topsoil was taken out several times to expose the new roots and promote their maturity and hardening. At this time, the new roots are flourishing, and the white root tips can be seen from the barbed wire netting. Because the barbed wire mesh restricts the further development of strong roots, it also promotes the development and production of weak roots, lateral roots and more new roots. Pay attention to the maintenance as usual in winter, and some heat preservation and anti-freezing measures can be taken appropriately.

7) in February of the following year, Jietian barbed wire net removed soil and copper wire, and the uniform roots that had grown were classified and pruned; most of the roots were cut into 5 inches long; the roots that were too strong were cut for about 3 inches; and the thin and weak roots could not be cut. At the same time, the original girdling trough was widened by 2 inches and deepened by about 1 inch, and copper wire was re-attached to the upper part of the trough to further reduce the nutrient supply of the old root to the plant, so as to promote the root system, and then re-enclose the barbed wire and cultivate the mountain mud.

8) by February of the third year, when the fibrous root from the new root had grown to the barbed wire, the trunk could be cut off from the rootless place at the lower end of the copper wire, removed and implanted into the mud basin for careful maintenance.

9) after one month of potting, light fertilizer can be applied. After several years of careful cultivation, after the new root can be initially exposed, the root replacement operation has been basically completed.

The above steps and requirements can be flexibly changed and adjusted according to the thickness of the tree species and trunk. After proper treatment, the residual piles with roots can also be cultivated (such as split piles, bonsai, etc.).

IV. Advantages of the method of exfoliation and replacement of roots

The main results are as follows: 1) the stem and root of the plant are the main artistic beauty of the stump bonsai, and the damage to the trunk and exposed roots can be avoided in the long-term cultivation process.

2) some small defects of the plant when it is young can become obvious with the increase of time, even affecting the ornamental effect of bonsai. After using this method, the main physiological defects of bonsai plants can be reduced, such as root (commonly known as chicken feet, which means that the exposed root of bonsai develops on one side), waist height (refers to the trunk part is too long and boring), base (commonly known as small feet, refers to the root neck of the plant is thinner than the upper trunk, is the most common and common problem of grafting) and flat dry, and so on.
