Last Updated: 2024/11/24, Many flower lovers find it difficult to find flower soil. In fact, flowers do not have a high demand for soil. As long as they have an "appetite", they are all good places to grow flowers. Then why can't ordinary soil raise flowers well? The main reason is that the acidity and alkalinity of the soil is not grasped!

Acidity and basicity of soil

We generally think that the soil is mainly alkaline soil in the north and acidic soil in the south, so how to define whether the soil is acid or alkali?

1. Ph value test

It is more scientific to judge by the PH (pH) value. The test paper is placed in the soil solution for 10 seconds, and the color card is taken out to compare the color. If the color value is less than 6.5, it is sour, and when the value is more than 7.5, it is alkaline.

2. Conventional classification

According to our common sense, the darker and softer soil is acidic soil.

Alkaline soil is dry, whitening and hard. There are generally three kinds of alkaline soil: calcareous soil, saline soil and alkaline soil.

Flowers that like acid and alkali.

Do not know whether the flowers like acid or alkali at home, it is very dangerous to use and change soil blindly, if it is light, it will be stunted, and if it is heavy, it will die immediately!

Generally speaking, flowers like weakly acidic soil. Only when the soil is slightly sour can it grow healthily. There are also alkali-tolerant flowers, even if the soil alkali can grow well.

Acid: rose, gardenia, jasmine, hydrangea, Milan, camellia, Magnolia, rhododendron, begonia, kumquat, pine, etc.

Alkali tolerance: pomegranate, wood incense, hibiscus, wisteria, Chinese wolfberry, oleander, elm leaf plum, primrose, cloves and so on

If the soil around you is too sour and alkaline, it is also accompanied by water acid and water alkali, even if you buy professional flower soil, it will still become inappropriate soil. At this time, don't worry, we can artificially adjust the acid and alkali of the soil.

Neutralizing acid soil

1. Sprinkle lime to neutralize acidity

The acidity of the soil in Guangzhou, Guangxi or other southern mountainous areas is too strong, coupled with the serious environmental pollution, the soil in some areas is so acidic that it is impossible to grow flowers at all!

Flower friends can refer to the practice of the agriculture and forestry department, sprinkle some lime in the soil and sprinkle a handful of soil to mix well, which is not only insecticidal and germicidal but also neutralizes the acidity.

2. add water and filter to reduce acidity.

Add water to acidic soil, pour out water after settling for half a day, and then "wash" it repeatedly for 2-3 times, which can reduce the acidity of soil.

3. Plant ash, neutralizing acidity

Plant ash is also an alkaline flower fertilizer, which can neutralize the acidity of the soil, sterilize and nourish the flowers.

Succulent, green pineapple, rose, which like weak acid and are not resistant to strong acid, can be mixed with plant ash in the flower soil (be careful not to have too much, easy to burn roots), which is a very good alkaline fertilizer.

Alkaline soil turns to acid

1. Mix rotten leaf soil to improve acidity.

The homes of Hua you in the north are all alkaline soil, which can be mixed with some withered leaves, pine needles and so on. It is best to rot before using them. It is more delicate and the flowers are easy to take root.

Rotten leaf soil is a very nutritious acid fertilizer. As the ancient poem says, "falling red is not a heartless thing, it is turned into spring mud to protect flowers."

2. mix dung and soil to improve acidity.

Alkaline soil can also be mixed with manure, whether it is poultry or livestock manure, or even earthworm manure.

Be careful not to add too much, usually 2-gallon flowerpots mixed with 2-3 handfuls of dung, too much is easy to burn roots

3. Add chemical particles and quickly dealkalize.

There are professional sulfuric acid powder, ferric sulfate and aluminum sulfate on the market. Flower friends can directly add to the alkaline soil according to the instructions, which can quickly change the alkalinity of the soil.

Especially flowers such as hydrangea and rose, which are sensitive to soil acid and alkali, these chemical particles can quickly change the color of flowers.

Hydrangea turns blue with acid and turns into powder with alkali, so you can control its color according to your preference.
