Previous studies have shown that birth order affects a child's personality. But new research confirms that whether you are the eldest, second or youngest child in the family, it can have an impact on your career. Researchers led by psychologist Emma Kenny recently revealed this fact.

The team of statisticians analyzed a random sample of more than 500 successful people from 11 different occupational groups. One of the most obvious findings is that the second son in the family is 30 per cent more likely to become the company's CEO than siblings. The researchers say this may be because they develop personality traits, such as competitiveness, flexibility and diplomatic skills, in order to attract the attention of parents. this makes them more suitable for successful roles that require quick thinking and a high level of management.

Mark Zuckerberg (Facebook social network CEO), Lord Alan Hugh (Amstrad CEO) and Bill Gates (Microsoft CEO) are all second sons in the family. The study also found that the second son of the family also had a 41% chance of becoming an Olympic athlete. Birth order is an important factor in determining the type of professional roles between siblings, the researchers said. These are more typical cases than special cases. Interestingly, they found that most of the astronauts were the eldest sons-Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong were typical examples. The eldest son is also most likely to become a scientist or engineer like Stephen Hawking and Tim Berners-Lee. The youngest children, such as John Sebastian Bach and Mozart, are 50% more likely to pursue a career in classical music, perhaps because of their "sensitive and idealistic personality traits".

As for only children, research shows that they are more likely to become artists because of their "perfectionist and mature personality traits".
