Are strawberries genetically modified? How do all kinds of strawberries come from the market?

First of all, let's be clear: at present, there are no genetically modified strawberries in China, no matter how many strawberries are on the market, they are selected and bred by traditional breeding methods. Don't think that looking at a color or shape that you don't often see doesn't mean it's genetically modified. And do not overestimate the ability of GM, the current GM technology is not to the extent that you want any grotesque product can do.

Many unknown friends heard the so-called milk strawberries ask whether the milk flavor was obtained through the so-called transgenic technology. What is even more outrageous is that it is irrigated by milk according to the so-called idea of "replenishing shape with shape" in traditional Chinese medicine.

It should be said that both statements are pure and serious nonsense. There is no scientific basis for the saying that there is no scientific basis. Even watering milk on plants can not make strawberries get milk flavor, which I have written a special article to demonstrate before. If it is really possible, watering milk also makes the cost of strawberries too high, but high is still the second place, if it can be achieved, we should be able to eat more so-called milk apples, milk peaches, milk bananas and even milk watermelons, right? At present, however, there is none.

The principle of genetically modified access to so-called milk strawberries seems to make a lot of sense, that is, the genes that control the flavor of milk are transferred into strawberries, but the very plausible claim is very different from the truth. Let's not say whether the above GM statement is reasonable or not. But as far as the facts are concerned, it is not consistent.

This so-called milk-flavored strawberry is a strawberry variety called "Zhang Ji" introduced from abroad, which naturally gets its name with a smell of milk. After the introduction, a series of other varieties were selected by means of crossing and backcrossing with some varieties in China. So creamy strawberries are not that magical.

In view of the fact that the subject said that there are many varieties and colors of strawberries, it is considered to be genetically modified, but in fact, what crop varieties are few today? There are no less than a hundred varieties of rice, rape, corn, soybeans, wheat and so on. Should it be classified as a genetically modified variety? Variety, color and other diversity is the problem of each species, which is also the breed selected by breeders to cope with the complex and changeable geographical environment and to meet people's different tastes and consumption needs, which has nothing to do with whether it is transgenic or not.

In addition, strawberries are not on the list of genetically modified commercial plants approved in China, so we should not doubt whether strawberries are genetically modified. Instead of worrying about the safety problems caused by genetically modified strawberries, it would be more practical to pay attention to the agricultural residues of strawberries. After all, if transgenic insect-resistant strawberries are really bred, pesticides can be saved, but the current situation is not genetically modified. Perhaps strawberry farm residues should be the focus of attention.

Here is science to promote agriculture, welcome everyone to discuss and comment on the area to express your views, look forward to your exchange.
