The Beginning of Summer has passed, and summer is coming quietly with higher and higher temperatures day by day. How to help orchids spend the summer safely has become the most urgent problem at present. If you want orchids to spend the summer safely, now we have to do two things for our precious orchids: rehydration and sunscreen.

Let's take a look at how to do it!

First, replenish water

Hot and dry in summer, the orchid pot soil is easy to dry and needs timely rehydration. Sometimes at the bottom of the basin, the soil near the orchid root is dry, but on the surface of the basin soil, the soil near the Reed head is still very moist, and some orchids have not watered the orchid all the time without noticing it. In the long run, this kind of "half-water" can easily lead to the empty root of the orchid, which is harmful to the growth of the orchid.

In order to prevent the phenomenon of empty roots, many orchid friends will choose the soaking basin watering method. However, soaking the basin in hot summer weather will cause the basin soil to become high-temperature and humid, which can easily lead to rotten seedlings. It is not recommended to soak orchids in summer. Soaking pots are best carried out in spring and autumn. When soaking the basin, some special organic nutrient solution for orchids can be mixed into the water, so that the roots of orchids can fully absorb nutrients.

So what can be done to keep the orchid pot soil moist in summer without being too wet? We can find two bricks or flat stones to cushion the left and right sides of the orchid basin, leaving space in the middle into a tray filled with water. The use of water vapor evaporation to keep the soil moist at the bottom of the orchid basin and effectively reduce the probability of "half-cut-off water". In addition, watering orchids in summer is best carried out in the evening, when the temperature is lower than daylight, plant transpiration is weakened, and water is not easy to evaporate.

Second, sunscreen

The fierce summer sun will make us dizzy and sunstroke, not to mention delicate orchids. Sunburned orchids will appear leaf wilting, withered yellow and other phenomena. If no timely action is taken against the injured orchid, the orchid is likely to die from the sun.

If you are maintaining orchids indoors, you can move them 2m away from the balcony in summer and close the curtains at noon to prevent strong sunlight. The curtains can be opened around 3 o'clock in the afternoon.

If you are growing orchids outdoors, you need to buy a full sunshade net for orchids. Generally, it is necessary to choose a shading net with a shading rate of 55%, 60%, and 60% for orchids. Shading net can not only reduce direct light, but also have a cooling effect for orchids to a certain extent, reduce water evaporation, and let orchid babies spend the summer safely in a cool and comfortable environment.

The combination of water-filled tray and sunshade net at the bottom of the orchid basin is the best orchid summer equipment. While the hot summer is not yet here, prepare the equipment for the orchids and spend the summer safely.
