Buddha belly bamboo also known as podocarpus, dense bamboo section. Its plant is shorter, bamboo seedlings are green, old bamboo is orange yellow. If the old bamboo is properly maintained, its leaves are as green as the young bamboo. Buddha belly bamboo and ordinary bamboo difference, bamboo knot is thin, short and inflated, like Maitreya Buddha belly, but also like the stack of Arhat, so named. Buddha belly bamboo whether planted or potted plants, can show its chic grace. This kind of bamboo is strong and upright, handsome and elegant, Ling frost and snow but not withered, calendar four times long luxuriant, elegant and popular, natural painting. Since ancient times, bamboo has been regarded as a symbol of integrity, chastity and modesty. Bamboo, plum, orchid and chrysanthemum were planted together in ancient times and called "Four Gentlemen". Bamboo, pine and plum were planted together in a pot, which became the famous "Three Friends of Winter". Su Dongpo, a great poet of Song Dynasty, had a poem saying: "It is better to eat without meat than live without bamboo; no meat makes people thin, and no bamboo makes people vulgar." From the above verses, we can see how fascinated the ancients were with bamboo.

1. Modeling and pots; making bonsai with buddha belly bamboo, mostly using jungle style, to show the natural charm of bamboo forest, but also useful one or two buddha belly bamboo to make bonsai. If two buddha belly bamboo plants are planted in a pot, one should be large and small, one thick and one thin, one high and one low, and one inclined all the time. The upright plants should generally be high, large and thick, and the inclined plants should generally be small, thin and low, with the former as the main and the latter as the auxiliary. If the two plants are similar in size and are upright, this kind of bonsai is less interesting. The production of jungle type Buddha belly bamboo bonsai, according to the size of the pot, generally with 5, 7, 9 plants planted in a pot. Take 5 plants as an example, according to the size of the plants, they are numbered as No. 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. When making, No. 1, 3 and 4 are often used as the main body of the bonsai; No. 2 and 5 are a group, as the object of the bonsai, playing a role as a foil. There should be an appropriate distance between the two groups.

Jungle-style buddha belly bamboo bonsai with shallow rectangular or oval purple sand basin is good, followed by glazed pottery basin. If placed in which some of the appropriate size ratio, exquisite workmanship, beautifully shaped panda ornaments, etc., will make bonsai more poetic. For example, 2-3 Buddha's belly bamboos of different heights are planted in the pot, and then exquisite and transparent rocks are placed in the appropriate position of the pot, which becomes a beautiful three-dimensional traditional Chinese painting_Bamboo Stone Painting.

2. Planting and propagation; propagation, pot turning and planting of buddha bamboo are suitable for may or september. Propagation commonly used method, that is, the plant from the pot buckle out, with bamboo will remove the root soil about 1/2, find the thick roots connected between the plants, cut it, you can plant. When planting, we should bring more soil to improve the survival rate. Combined with plant division and pot turning, old roots, too long roots and dead roots should be cut off, and upright branches, drooping branches and dense branches should be cut off at the same time to reduce water evaporation of plants, facilitate survival and make plant shape more beautiful. Buddha belly bamboo likes loose, relatively fertile, well-drained acid sandy soil, mainly humus soil and a small amount of sand mixed thoroughly, you can use.

3. maintenance management

(1)Venue. The newly planted Buddha belly bamboo bonsai, after watering, placed in the shade for about 10 days, and then placed in a semi-shady and semi-sunny place for 5 days, and then placed in a sunny, ventilated, warm and humid environment for careful maintenance. Because the pot is shallow and the soil is small, it is easy to damage the roots in the sun in summer, so it is necessary to properly shade. In late autumn and early winter, when the minimum temperature drops to about 5℃ at night, it should be moved indoors, and the room temperature should be kept at about 0 ℃. The room temperature is too high to grow in the coming year. In the south, as long as the pot buried in the sun leeward soil, you can safely winter.

(2)Watering. Buddha belly bamboo likes moisture, often watering, keep the soil moist, but the basin can not accumulate water. Summer is its growth prosperous BR peak period, the temperature is high, morning and evening should be watered once. After winter moves into the room, foliar dust is much, want to spray water appropriately to foliar surface, make blade maintains green beautiful.

(3)Fertilization. Buddha belly bamboo bonsai fertilization should not be too much, too much fertilizer makes branches and leaves steep long, affecting the beauty, 3~9 months, apply a decomposed thin liquid fertilizer once a month.

(4)Plastic surgery. Buddha belly bamboo grows faster, the shape of branches should not be cut off in time, so as not to consume nutrients. New bamboos can be decided according to their shape. If the nodes are short and big, although they affect the shape, they should be kept and replanted in September. If the new bamboos are thin and long, they should be cut off in time.

(5)Pest control. Buddha belly bamboo pests and diseases are less, mainly bamboo borers, aphids, scale insects, to get rid of in time.

To raise bonsai Buddha belly bamboo and make its section short and belly big, we should pay attention to the following points:

Choose summer bamboo. In the north, if you don't get the law, the new bamboo joints are long and thin, which is almost the same as bamboo, and will lose its unique charm. Bamboo budding twice a year, the first time in early summer, another time in early autumn. New bamboo growing in early summer has short nodes and large bellies (if it is not properly maintained, it will still become slender), so attention should be paid to preserving them; while new bamboo growing in early autumn has long stems and thin bellies, so autumn bamboo should generally be cut off except for planting bamboo.

Water control. Bamboo shoots exposed pot soil, that is, should control watering. When the pot soil is relatively dry and the tender bamboo leaves of the female parent are slightly wilted, the Buddha belly bamboo should be moved to a shaded place for half an hour first. After the temperature of the pot soil and bamboo is reduced, spray water on the leaves first, and then irrigate the water one hour later. Repeat this several times, when the new bamboo grows to about 40 cm, the bamboo joint is basically shaped, and then restore normal watering.

Soil. Buddha belly bamboo likes acid soil, but the northern soil is weakly alkaline, so fertilization should use "alum fertilizer water", in order to make it thrive.

Peel the sheaths. Each node of bamboo shoots is surrounded by a thin bamboo sheath, which is surrounded by lateral branches. When the bamboo shoots grow to a certain height (due to the thickness of the bamboo stem, the height of the length varies greatly at the same time), the sheath at the base of the bamboo shoots can be peeled off 1-2 pieces, and then peeled off one piece each week. Take special care when peeling the sheaths so as not to bruise the shoots and lateral buds. Shelling is best done in the morning. Shedding can promote the growth of lateral branches and shorten and thicken the joints, so as to achieve the goal of dwarfing plants.

Tip. According to the different size and thickness of Buddha belly bamboo, when it grows to a certain height, the top of bamboo shoots can be cut off by 5~8 cm, so that the plants can form tops and promote the growth of lateral branches. After the first tapping, if the strong lateral branches near the top grow quickly, the second tapping should be carried out, and the strong lateral branches at the top should be cut short, leaving 2~3 joints.
