Orchids grow in deep mountain valleys and humus-rich hillside forests, where they are both permeable and water-retaining, with high air humidity and good ventilation. If the orchid is moved to the balcony and pavilion to grow, it must be artificially created close to the conditions given to it by nature, so the orchid can grow well, so it is very fastidious in the selection of pots and the use of soil.

In the choice of orchid basin, pottery basin is better than porcelain basin, but not as beautiful as porcelain basin. Purple sand basin is between the two in terms of air permeability and water permeability. Therefore, people often choose it to nourish orchid. But not for a long time without changing the pot, the orchid root may be bad, causing the orchid to die.

When I went up the mountain to pick orchids, I found many old tree ferns lying on the ground in the primeval forest, covered with vines, ferns and small trees. I took a section of tree ferns and brought them back to make several flowerpots, and matched the sawdust dug out to the mountain native orchids. Three months later, I found that the orchid root is thicker, whiter and tender than other pots, and the leaves grow well. As a result, many orchid friends and I began to use a large number of trees to raise orchids in this basin, all of which achieved very good results.

Tree ferns grow in tropical and subtropical primeval forests, fall to the ground when old and decay slowly, and the trunk is made up of woody brown silk, loose and hollow. When making an orchid basin, it can be sawed into small sections according to the thickness of the fern stem (that is, the basin height), the dry rough into a large basin needs to be slightly longer, the dry details are slightly shorter, and the general basin height is equal to the diameter. The big end of the trunk is called the basin, the small head is used as the bottom of the basin, and the bottom of the basin is left with 3cm and a certain thickness of the basin wall, and the rest is dug out. The original bottom hole is plugged with large pieces of sawdust dug out and slightly modified to form an orchid basin. The general shape is natural, that is, round and oval, and it can also be processed into squares and polygons, such as properly retaining other roots, ferns and vines that were originally attached to the fern stem, making it more primitive, simple and natural. Then according to the height and size of orchids to choose a variety of caliber fern basin, it will be more coordinated and beautiful.

After three years of fern basin orchid, it is summarized that it has the following advantages: first, it is breathable and moisturizing, and the brown filamentous tree fern wood forms its whole body full of holes, so it is not afraid of pouring rain and breathable. If you go out for a long time, you are not afraid that no one will water it. As long as you soak the bottom of the basin in water, the water will rise and moisturize the basin soil along the basin wall. Second, the fern basin itself is slowly decaying, which can provide some nourishment for the orchid and make the orchid grow luxuriantly. This is the unique advantage of the fern basin, which can not be compared with other orchid pots. If the epiphytic orchid is not divided for two years, the root of the orchid will pierce the wall of the basin, so that you can not divide the basin. Third, natural beauty, simple and generous, unique style. Fourth, there are no water holes, earthworms, ants and other pests can not enter the basin along the bottom of the basin to harm Langen. Fifth, it is not easy to be broken and durable.

However, live tree ferns cannot be used to make orchid pots because of their compact structure, hard shell and ring, do not have the above advantages, and are protected by the forestry department. (Cai Dazhang)
