Russ in Xinjiang is not rampant
In the spring of 2001, some Jian orchids were introduced from the south. Because they had just started to raise orchids, they did not know the seriousness of Bayas disease and did not expect it to spread so widely. They always felt that they were unlikely to be encountered by themselves.
When planting, the disinfection of scissors is not strict, and the scorched tips of dead leaves are often seen in the subsequent management and protection, so they are easily cut off with scissors. After a few months, I found that a few new orchid leaves appeared along the vein direction of about 1 mm wide, different length of green stripes, and found that the new buds are not tall, I still do not know that this is Bailas.
In 2002, more and more orchids were infected. I suddenly woke up when I asked the orchid friend in the mainland that it was Ballas. At that time, almost all of the few orchids in the family were infected, so there was no need for abandonment and isolation. Moreover, other orchid friends and I all feel that Byras's harm to orchids in Xinjiang does not seem to be as severe as that introduced in the orchid book. For example, after orchids are infected by orchids, orchid leaves will fester, juice will appear inside, and broken orchid leaf juice can also be pulled into silk, but there is no such phenomenon in orchids infected by me and other orchid friends. So I decided to keep these orchids in order to observe the manifestations of infected orchids and explore ways to treat them.
After knowing that the orchid was infected with Bailas, early attempts were made to spray and irrigate the orchid with amoxicillin and ribavirin, about once or twice a week, but not for long, only about a dozen times. Since then, there has been no spraying since the end of 2002.
In the late summer and early autumn of 2003, two pots of orchids bloomed, and it was obvious that Hualien was not high, and there were black stripes about 1 mm wide and 1 cm long on the petals from the root to the tip of the petal.
In 2004, new leaf buds grew in the orchid pot, but after the orchid leaf grew, it was bright green and clean, and there was no Bailas disease spot, as was the case in several pots.
I introduced Jianlan, which has strong vitality and wide adaptability, so I am relatively extensive in management and protection, and because the housing area is small and limited, it is often placed on a closed balcony with a temperature of more than 40 degrees in summer, and may even be close to 50 ℃. In winter, it is directly on the indoor windowsill, bearing the baking of the hot air in the heating bag below. The conditions were so difficult that sometimes they even forgot to water them in time, which made the orchids stand a more severe test.
Our land is located in the northwest, northern Xinjiang, with little precipitation and dry air. The annual precipitation is only more than 200mm. It is sunny in summer and the temperature can reach more than 40 ℃. It is cold in winter, but the indoor temperature can be maintained at about 20 ℃ due to heating. At present, the new orchid leaves can not see the disease spot with the naked eye, and the height of the new orchid plant is also normal. Due to poor maintenance, flowers have not been seen this year.
If Byras is really not suitable for the dry, high-temperature, high-light climate of the northwest, can we establish an orchid garden in the northwest, and whether we can try to inoculate the orchid artificially to defeat Byrus with the help of the climate? and then mutate and evolve genes that can resist the Bellas virus, and then use artificial pollination and gene transfer to make more orchids acquire the ability to resist virus. I don't know if this idea is feasible.
I will inform the predecessors, experts and the vast number of orchid friends of the orchid world of my findings for your reference, if they can play a role in defeating Bayras. Would be delighted. (Wang Zhiyu, Xinjiang)
