In the process of raising orchids, I have tried many kinds of plants, such as perlite, pine needle soil and moss. Perlite permeability is excellent, but the quality is easy to float, a little do not pay attention to fly out of the orchid basin, the home will be dirty. The air permeability of pine needle soil is not good enough, and orchids do not grow very well. Moss can raise orchids, but in practice, it is found that because the moisture retention of moss is too strong, it has affected some air permeability. I once placed a layer of peach stone in the lower layer of an orchid pot planted with moss. I took a look at the basin after a period of time. The new white and delicate new orchid root grew out of the following brush, which made me have a desire to use a better plant material.

Recently, it occurred to me that if wood, bamboo and corncobs are burned or baked at high temperature to make them carbonized, and then knocked into small pieces for orchid planting, the effect should be good.

Through practice, I carbonized the cores of corn cobs that were easy to find around me, and found that they could be easily knocked into small pieces. When used for planting orchids, it is found that the moisture retention is very good, and the air permeability is also very excellent because of the block shape of the plant. The carbonized corncob also has the advantage of lighter weight.

The straw of hay and wheat and rice straw can also be burned into peat, which can be used to grow orchids.

If orchid friends in some cities are inconvenient to burn their own carbonized plants, they can also go to the ornamental fish market to buy bulk activated carbon particles for orchid cultivation, the price is also not expensive, 5 yuan / kg in the local market, I believe it is cheaper in the mainland.

Share this experience with orchid friends all over the world, and would like to bring success and joy to all orchid friends. May the orchids of the land of China blossom and aromatherapy. (Wang Zhiyu, Xinjiang)
