Countermeasures for dry basin and wet basin when planting orchid on balcony

Fast drying of basin noodles is a common problem in planting orchids on family balconies.

Often freshly watered water, the basin water has evaporated dry within a day, but the basin must still be wet enough. In this environment, orchids tend to develop slowly, with small roots and sparse roots.

This is related to the low humidity, fast air circulation and high temperature of the balcony.

Of course, changing the local environment of the balcony is the best way, if you can't change the local environment of the balcony as you like.

My method is as follows:

The mixed plant material was used to plant, and different mixing ratios were used in different layers.

Specific operation: the lower section of the basin (basin height 2gam3) with granular plant material (plant stone + bark + granular orchid soil), the upper section of the basin (basin height 1 inch 3) with granular plant mixture coconut bran, the higher the proportion of coconut bran, the basin surface and then spread a layer of coconut bran. Because the coconut bran is very moisturizing and breathable, the humidity inside and outside the basin can be basically guaranteed under the environment of low humidity and fast air circulation on the balcony.

The orchid I planted in this way has a good root system and good germination.

If you can't find coconut bran, you should be able to achieve the same effect with water moss. (spring, summer, autumn and winter)
