Discussion on the experience of water moss and orchid
Moss also known as white moss, is a moss plant, often grows in the mountains cliff or stream spring side, white-green or bright green or cotton-like, densely intertwined into pieces, stem prostrate attached to the ground and born, irregular branches or branches, stem and branches nearly the same shape. When dried, it is extremely loose and pale white. It can be used for planting after washing and removing impurities. The method of planting orchids with water moss is very simple. Before use, as long as the dry water moss is fully soaked and slightly wrung out, it can be used.
It is difficult to plant orchids. One of the difficulties is the selection of planting materials. In recent years, I chose to plant orchids with water moss, and planted many spring orchids and summer orchids with large flowers, luxuriant foliage, developed roots and full flavor. From my experience in planting orchids and cultivating orchids, water moss planting orchids has three major functions:
The first is environmental optimization. The moss is clean, disease-free and sterile. It is a natural orchid plant material, especially after processing, the moss does not contain any bacteria. The orchids planted with it are very robust and can reduce the harm of pests.
The second is the heat preservation and moisturizing effect. Moss as orchid substrate or as surface covering of orchid basin can not only prevent soil from polluting leaf surface when watering, but also reduce water evaporation, maintain soil temperature constant, and keep warm and moist.
Again, mulch germination. Orchid roots for the fleshy roots, requires the matrix has good ventilation and water permeability, and dried moss is very loose, very suitable for the growth of orchid roots, so you can avoid the phenomenon of rotten roots caused by basin mud ponding.
In addition, the temperature of the sphagnum is constant and the nutrients are rich. Rich in organic matter and nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, magnesium, zinc, iron and other nutrients, dried moss, wet after slowly decaying in the pot, the nutrients contained also slowly supply the growth and development of orchids, not only can save fertilizer, but also can promote the germination of orchids, usually, the germination rate of orchids planted with moss is higher than that planted with ordinary plants.
From the point of view of the situation of water moss planting orchid, water moss planting orchid also has the characteristics of economy and practicality. Dry moss sold on the market, the general price is about 20 yuan per kilogram, if 20 x 25cm flowerpot planting orchid, 1 kg moss can grow at least 15 pots of orchids, the cost of each pot orchid moss planting material is only about 1.3 yuan, obviously lower than the cost of other planting materials.
