Simple preparation of chitin and its application in orchid planting

The application of chitin in orchid planting has been reported, and it may also be tried out by Lanyou. Many years ago, I prepared chitin for the preparation of absorbable surgical sutures and sewage flocculants. This year, I watered its solution again, and after a few months, I found no negative effect, but it had some benefits, so I dared to write it out. I didn't dare to call it orchid friend, but I had to be prepared to accept patting bricks! Winter is coming, so have nothing to do. Make some chitin to avoid itchy hands. In addition, you can't sweat in winter and suffer less.

1. Preparation of chitin

1.1 Raw materials

Waste shrimp, crab, shrimp cricket shell, hydrochloric acid, sodium hydroxide, white vinegar

1.2 Ware and other

Large beaker or large enamel jar, deep white steel pot, stove, white steel net fence, PH test paper (1-14)

1.3 preparation steps and technological conditions

Boil the carapace in a white steel pot with 3% sodium hydroxide solution for half an hour, and the residual meat on the shell reacts with sodium hydroxide. Remove and wash until neutral. Put it into a large beaker or large enamel jar and pour into the pre-prepared 2-3% hydrochloric acid solution. At this time, a large number of bubbles are immediately formed, which is carbon dioxide. The reaction is that hydrogen chloride (hydrochloric acid) reacts with calcium carbonate in the carapace to form carbon dioxide, calcium chloride and water. Judgment of the reaction end point: when the PH value is about 5, soaking for a day and night, almost no bubbles are produced. If the reaction ends in the middle of the night, you don't see it, never mind, add a little hydrochloric acid, if there are no bubbles, it can be regarded as a reaction beam, if there are bubbles, continue to bubble until the end point.

Remove and wash until neutral. Put into a white steel pot, add 50% sodium hydroxide solution (note: add water first, then sodium hydroxide, do not splash the solution on eyes, skin, clothes), boil for about 10 hours, take a small piece, wash to neutral, put into a diluted half bowl of white vinegar, dissolve in about 10 minutes, can be regarded as the end of the reaction, if not dissolved, or insufficient, then boil until the end of the reaction. This reaction is the deacetylation of sodium hydroxide with carapace. Remove, wash several times until neutral, dry and set aside. (if the carapace is made into 1-2 mm pieces in advance to deacetylate, the reaction time can be shortened.)

Prepare 5-10% deacetylated chitin solution with twice diluted white vinegar for use.
