Water management of balcony orchids
When I first learned to raise orchids, I also went up the mountain to plant them in flower bowls. Because orchid books were seldom sold at that time, the bookstores in the county simply disappeared. Due to busy farm work and lack of cultivation techniques, more than a dozen orchids all died, especially the loss of four seedlings of a broad-leaved tiger. Later, the method was changed, and all the downhill grasses were planted in the soil behind the house, so that they rarely died and only sprouted. This piece of land behind my house is about one mu of land, which has been cultivated for many years. The soil is fertile, acidic, black sand loam, with a slope of about 30 degrees. This piece of land is located from southwest to northeast, and the sun can shine directly from 8 o'clock in the morning to 4 o'clock in the afternoon. Go up the mountain to pick orchids often encounter shady places in the forest, although the orchid leaves are luxuriant, but rarely see flowers. In order to see the flowers as soon as possible, the orchids I picked three years ago were not shaded after they were planted in the soil. I only let the weeds in the fields block part of the sun. Most of the orchids just down the mountain were scorched by the sun, and they looked extremely ugly. When the second-and third-generation new grasses adapt to the new environment, although the leaves become yellowish green, the leaves are not luxuriant, but the flowers multiply, and they are very easy to produce flower buds and leaf buds. The germination rate is about 50%, 200%, and the flowers are colorful. The Orchid Sutra said: "Yin leaves are good, Yang flowers are good." orchids enjoy flowers for a month and leaves for a year. " In order to combine the two organically, after adopting the method of partial orchid erection to shade in 2003, the orchids grew basically satisfactorily, and more than a dozen orchid friends who came to my home to buy flowers in other counties and cities thought that this method was desirable.
The specific measures are as follows:
First, sunshade
1. Build a frame to cover the grass and shade.
Planting sticks with a diameter of 10-20cm thick in the middle and around the orchid garden is better. One tree is planted at a distance of 2 meters, 15-20cm piles are buried in the soil, and the stakes are connected with 8-10cm thick wood strips or bamboo. The distance between the sticks is about 70cm, and each knot is fixed with thin wire. Finally, it is covered with wheat straw or Bamao grass harvested in winter. If there is a strong light on the side, you can use the cover method to fence the hedge. The shade density is guaranteed to have 75% Mel 80% in summer and autumn. In winter and spring, if the frost and snow are less or less, the mulch can be removed and the light in the shed can be increased, which can improve the plant's ability to resist frost damage. If there is no mountain body and other things to cover the cold wind in the northwest, it can not withdraw or thicken the fence and roof cover in the northwest to form a wind barrier to block the severe cold and frost.
2. the method of planting melons to cover the shade
The method of planting melon and shading is similar to covering grass, except that more thin wood strips are added to the ceiling, when the land is in full bloom in spring, more than a dozen plants are planted around the orchid garden (the specific number should be determined according to the varieties of melons planted and the area of the orchid garden), such as pumpkin, cucurbit seeds or bergamot seedlings, making use of the strong light characteristics of these plants, the sun is hot in midsummer, while these plants have long vines and luxuriant leaves, which completely cover the strong light. The orchid garden is really cool and has scattered light at home, which is both ventilated and cooled, which is completely suitable for the appropriate environment of temperature and humidity needed for the angry growth of orchid buds, and in winter, especially after Frosts Descent, the flower buds are unearthed, and when the flower arrows grow, the melon leaves have already withered by frost, and the mild sunlight on the orchid arrows has increased, providing conditions for the flower color and cold resistance of orchids. However, it should be noted that if there are more melons in the shed, they can be picked to eat or sell, so as to reduce the bearing capacity of the scaffolding. if the melons do not grow luxuriantly and cannot cover the scorching sun, more nitrogen fertilizer can be applied outside the roots.
3. The method of building frame to cover sunshade net
The use of this method is the same as the first two items, except that the wood strips of the ceiling can be put less, save materials, reduce weight, and increase the life of the wooden frame. Shade can be covered with 85% plastic mesh, and can not be covered in weak light in winter and spring without frost and snow.
II. Management
1. Weeding. Since orchid grass is planted on cultivated land and other land, the land itself has a lot of weed seeds and roots, and grass seeds blown by the wind from elsewhere fall to the ground to take root, so the orchid garden should be weeded frequently, and the best way to pull it up by hand is to pull it up once a month in summer and autumn, especially in the stage from orchid bud unearthing to flower bud unearthing, you should be very careful to slowly remove the grass and pull it out, so as not to take away the orchid leaves. Generally speaking, weeding on one mu of land requires three to five workloads.
2. Fertilizing. If you plant orchid on cultivated land, you can apply less or no fertilizer, because the fertilizer inside the planted crops is sufficient, and if the orchid plant is sprayed with potassium dihydrogen phosphate foliar fertilizer for more than one year or before winter, or apply a small amount of calcium magnesium fertilizer and potassium sulfate fertilizer outside the root, if the land is barren, you should remove a layer of sifted fine coal ash or plant ash without planting bluegrass beforehand, or spread a layer of dry firewood grass on the soil surface to be planted. This can also play a role in some insecticidal, germicidal and grass species to increase potash fertilizer, and then sprinkle a small amount of calcium superphosphate to make the soil loose and soak evenly, and then plant orchids. If topdressing is planting more than 100 nests of orchid in a large area, the easiest way is to apply a small amount of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium ternary compound fertilizer with 25% content next to bluegrass, not too close (pay attention to the careful use of orchid, weak seedlings). My purpose of using this method is that the soil is steep, the sand is heavy, and the loss of fertilizer is fast, while the release of granular compound fertilizer is slow and it is not easy to hurt the orchid.
3. Medication. The medicine for raising orchid is cultivated in the wild in a large area, with many insect pests, and it is also prone to diseases in the season of high temperature and humidity, so after each weeding, some insecticides and fungicides are sprayed every week, such as Keshuda, Baishouqing, carbendazim, methyl topiramate and so on.
III. Conclusion
Wild cultivation of domestic orchids has the following advantages:
1. It is especially suitable for beginners to recognize orchids and orchids. Through observation and comparison, we can find out the differences of leaves, nails, buds, veins and colors in the growth process of all kinds of orchids, such as petal flowers, colored flowers, vegetarian flowers, deformed flowers and so on, and the differences of temperature, humidity, light, fertilizer and soil needed for growth.
2. For mountain farmers, this method can use their own contracted land to domesticate bluegrass, rather than the bad habit of selling it directly and losing it if it can't be sold. In general, orchids may mutate into top-grade flowers, but there are two kinds of orchids: mutation and gradual change, and the gradual process is slow. Some orchids are cultivated for two or three years, and some take longer to change. The downhill grass cultivated in the field, where there are top-grade flowers or expected products, can attract orchid experts to choose and buy, or they can also be cultivated in their own direction, with a view to greater development, and the general products are still planted in the soil.
3. The method of imitating wild cultivation is also suitable for the general varieties of orchids which are not of high grade. Most orchid lovers have the habit of buying grass in the flower market or going up to the mountain to pick orchids, but they can not always find high-quality orchids. Due to factors such as unsatisfactory or narrow living environment, they want to deal with general products, but it is a pity to give them away. If you refuse to give them to others, you can find a plot of land for one or more people to cultivate in this way to comfort your heart.
4. For all the common grass discarded in the orchid city, any orchid friend can pick it up or ask someone to put it away and plant it in this way, instead of turning a blind eye to it and letting resources be wasted.
I think the method of imitating wild cultivation of domestic orchids is feasible, because over the past four years, I have used this method to cultivate more than 10,000 nests of tens of thousands of seedlings of spring orchids, cymbidium, spring swords, Douban, Jianlan, Erbahui and other varieties. Every spring there will be a lot of precious orchids and fine orchids, which really benefit a lot. Interested orchids might as well give it a try and welcome orchids with strong economic strength and intention to buy orchids to visit during the Spring Festival. (Xie Baoming, Nanhai, Guangdong)
