Application of dynamic correlation between watering of orchid on balcony and temperature

Watering is one of the key measures for the success of orchid cultivation. "it takes three years to water orchids." this sentence shows the importance, flexibility and uncertainty of watering in orchid cultivation. Many inexperienced orchids are confused about how to water orchids. After years of experiments, the author studies and summarizes a regression equation between the watering time of orchid cultivation and air temperature in the south balcony, which is simple and easy. After more than two years of use, it has achieved good results, which is introduced as follows.

I. the basic situation of orchid planting

The place where I raise orchids is on the southward balcony on the fourth floor. The cultivation soil (self-prepared) is rotten leaf soil (60%), hard plant material (red particles, four-in-one pond foundation soil, etc.) accounts for 30%, and other soil accounts for 10%. The orchid basin is a Jianchuan soil basin (high 36cm, basin mouth diameter 22cm). Fertilization is carried out from the middle of March to the middle of October every year. Using self-developed chemical fertilizer containing 10 kinds of nutrients, fertilizing is done every 20 days (water is mixed with 1000 times of the liquid and soaked for 30 minutes). The illumination time is 1 hour every day after sunrise in spring, autumn and winter (except on cloudy and rainy days), as long as scattered light is needed in summer. Windows are opened for ventilation 24 hours a day. In the control of diseases and insect pests, compound insecticides were sprayed once a month in March, April and May, which could control not only red spiders, but also shell insects and other pests.

II. Exploration on the formulation of the relationship between Orchid watering and Air temperature

In December 2001, according to my many years' watering data of orchids and balcony temperature records, applying the relationship between correlation and regression in statistics, the following formulas were summarized.

Where Y is the watering interval, x is the average temperature of the orchid cultivation place, and the significance of 0mur5 is: during the watering interval of orchids, there are more than 0 days in sunny days, 4 days in cloudy days and below moderate rain, and 5 days in more time above heavy rain.

Scope of application:

Indoor southward balcony, loose, aerated and water-retaining compound culture soil, with an average temperature of 8 ℃≦ X ≦ 26 ℃ (my balcony varies throughout the year).

By using this regression equation, the interval time between watering (soaking) of orchids can be calculated: for example, from July 20 to July 30, the average temperature of the balcony is 23 ℃, and most of them are sunny, then the formula for generation is Yao32mur23 x 0.95 million 10.15 ≈ for 10 days, that is, it can be watered once every 10 days for 30 minutes. For another example, in April 2004, the average temperature of the balcony was 19 ℃, and most of the balconies were rainy days, then the formula was substituted into the formula: Yizh32mur19 x 0.95 + (lmel4) = 14 + (1-4) = 15Muth19 days, that is, an average of 17 days can be watered once; after the use of the above methods in 2002, 2003 and January-July 2004, good results were obtained in orchid cultivation. Orchids generally have good roots, many roots, old roots do not rot, orchid germination rate is very high, the annual germination rate is more than 1:2. Two photos of orchids are attached, please refer to the editorial department: this potted orchid (lotus petal element) was divided into pots on February 13, 2004, when there were 5 seedlings. On July 20, after 5 months and 7 days of growth, 7 strong seedlings and 2 buds were sent out. The total root quantity is 21 (18 positive ones). It is estimated that the annual new and old seedlings of this potted orchid can reach 20 seedlings.

Traditional orchid planting methods mainly rely on the experience of orchid growers. In the aspects of soil selection, watering, lighting, medication, fertilizer and ventilation, the corresponding management measures are determined according to the accumulation of experience of orchids, only qualitative orchid techniques, different orchid farmers, different methods of cultivation; general orchid books, the introduction of orchid knowledge and technology are universal and qualitative knowledge in orchid planting. The author is engaged in agricultural science and technology, and often carries out agricultural scientific experiments to judge things. Everything is based on the data of the test results. Therefore, in orchid cultivation, quantitative, standardized, digital and operable planting techniques should also be studied and summarized to facilitate the universal promotion of orchids and reduce the loss of beginners' orchids.
