Avoid direct sunlight on orchids
"Yin Camellia, Yang Peony, half Yin and half Yang four Seasons Orchid". This shows that orchids need half-yin and half-yang light conditions.
Most species of orchids grow in mountains and forests, develop the habit of tolerance to shade, and do not like direct glare. If the light is too strong, the leaf color will quickly turn yellow, the leaf surface is rough, and even the leaf is scorched. The light is moderate, the leaf is green and delicate, and shiny; if the light is too weak, the leaf color is dark green and lose luster.
The intensity of light has a direct effect on the number, unearthed period and growth of leaf buds and flower buds. When the light is too weak, the orchids grow more leaf buds and fewer flower buds, and grow poorly. Therefore, from a period of time before flower bud formation, proper increase of light can promote flower bud differentiation and achieve the purpose of multi-flowering.
The flower color of orchids is mainly determined by anthocyanins, and the purple light and ultraviolet rays in the light are the main light energy to form orchid pigments. therefore. If the light is strong, the flower color is dark and bright; if the light is weak, the flower color is light, compared with the normal, it is mistaken for another variety. For example, in ancient times, there is a kind of "snow orchid" in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province, which is produced by the back yang of Yinshan Mountain. "if it is planted in a basin and slightly sunny, it turns green", so it is regarded as rare, but now it is often encountered in field collection and can also be obtained by artificial cultivation.
The intensity of light also has an effect on the florescence. In the same cultivation place, the orchid pot with strong light should blossom first. if you want to postpone the flowering period and slow down the flowering rate, put the flowerpot in a shady place.
The light that likes half-yin and half-yang is the commonness of most orchids, but there are also differences among orchids. The species of spring flowering, such as spring orchid, spring sword and spring delivery, need relatively weak light, and the shade should be controlled between 70% and 80%. Summer and autumn flowering species, such as Xia Hui, Qiu Su, etc., need light slightly, and their shade should be controlled between 60% and 70%, while Melanias need about 85%.
Although the orchid is more shade-tolerant, it also has phototropism. In the same cultivation site, the flowers and leaves on the sunny side are always flourishing. Over time, flowers and leaves will grow unevenly and tilt to one side. In order to be symmetrical and beautiful, you should rotate and adjust the direction of the orchid basin at intervals.
