First, watering

Hard plants should be watered frequently to raise orchids. Orchids dormant every winter and are watered every two or three days. Orchids begin to wake up and grow in April and are watered once a day. In the summer and autumn dry season, water twice a day. There are three watering methods: watering, spraying and soaking. Water is poured into the basin with a spoon, which has the advantages of labor-saving and time-saving, and the disadvantage of water flow all over the ground. As the hard plant is not easy to penetrate, where it is poured or where it cannot be watered, it must be fully irrigated many times and do not think that the bottom of the basin is leaking. Spray that is to spray water to the plant material, it takes more time, but less water, and the water will not be in a mess. Soaking is the basin method, the plant material receives water evenly, but the operation is troublesome. The method to be used depends on the weather (temperature, humidity). High temperature, dry air, pouring or soaking; low temperature, high air humidity, spray can be used. In general, watering or soaking is used on the first day, and spraying is available on the second day. In short, adjust measures to the times and not be rigid.

Second, moisturizing

The moisturizing performance of hard plant materials is related to the particle size: large particles, large voids, large evaporation; small particles, small voids, small evaporation. The mixed use of large and small particles can improve the moisturizing performance. However, the moisturizing performance is still limited, which is far inferior to the soft plant material. There will be problems even if you are negligent for a moment. To this end, I did a comparative experiment of moisturizing: using the same flowerpot, A pot with pure fairy soil, B pot with 3:1 fairy soil and sawdust. The soaking pot method is used to make the plant fully absorb water. Four days later, the plant material was checked in the pot, the plant material in the first basin was all dry, and the plant in the second basin was still wet except for the surface layer. The moisturizing performance of the second basin is much better than that of the armour basin. However, the species between cultivated orchids and aerial orchids (such as golden child prodigies) should not be added with sawdust.

III. Fertilization

The hard plant absorbs fertilizer and water, which is not as full as the soil, it is only a little wet on the surface of the plant, and the next day it is watered, and these fertilizers are taken out of the basin, so fertilizers should be applied frequently. In general, orchids apply 0.1% 0.2% chemical fertilizer solution every 10 to 15 days during the growing period. The method of cyclic fertilization can be used for fertilization. Prepare several washpots before fertilizing, put the flowerpot into the treasure basin, pour the plant material repeatedly with fertilizer and water, and then move to another empty basin to drain water. In this way, the fat and water flowing out will be recycled. Nitrogen fertilizer is mainly applied before September every year, and phosphorus and potassium fertilizer is applied after September.

The biscuit cake has the effect of automatic fertilization, which is especially suitable for growing orchids with hard plants. The method of making cake fertilizer is as follows: put the cake fertilizer in the pot, add the right amount of water, seal it with plastic film, and let it rot. Wait for six months and a year later, bask in the sun to a dry block that does not melt with water. Break up a small dry block or two and put it on the basin surface. When spraying or watering, the dry block will infiltrate into the plant material to provide nutrition. After a few days, move the position to keep the fat and water from seeping into the fixed position. Just this once every spring, once and for all.
