Granular plant material to raise orchid
At the beginning of planting orchids, the author began to choose the planting materials for orchids according to the introduction of books and relevant materials. Only know that the plant material is ventilated, loose, specially to the deep mountains and old forest to dig two snake skin bags of rotten leaf soil. These soils are very soft and elastic. At that time, rotten leaf soil accounted for 50% of the choice of plant materials. Rotten leaf soil is the main plant material is relatively breathable, summer and autumn season, the growth is more normal. It is difficult to manage in winter and spring, not without watering for a long time, a small amount of watering, the surface of the plant is wet and the interior is dry; the plant is all wet and not easy to dry for half a month, and the orchid is soaked in moisture for a long time. In addition, in winter and spring, there is either frost or plum rain, and the phenomenon of rotting roots and seedlings is serious.
In the second year, in view of the poor ventilation, the vegetable garden soil was cancelled in the plant material, and the medium sand was replaced with mung bean-sized cinder or gravel, with granular plant material accounting for 60%, and the proportion of rotten leaf soil was reduced, and rotten leaf soil accounted for 40%. In summer and autumn, the frequency of watering is some more than that of the first year, watering is easy, the water permeability of plant material is improved, and the air permeability is good. In winter and spring, the management is very convenient, and the plant begins to dry after watering for 3 to 5 days. Although the weather in winter and spring is disadvantageous to the growth of orchids, no matter in the open air or indoors, rotten seedlings and dead seedlings basically do not exist, except for some weak seedlings with lost leaves and some leaves with scorched tails, most of them grow normally.
In the third year, the selection of plant material was improved, and the granular plant material was mainly broken brick, gravel, cinder, coarse sand, fairy soil, carbon block, snake wood, and rotten leaf soil and sawdust. The granular material is enlarged, the broad bean is big, the soybean is big, the mung bean is big. The main plant materials are gravel, broken bricks and coarse sand, accounting for 3 times 4, rotten leaves or sawdust account for 1 stick 4. Granular plant materials must be mixed with more than two kinds of materials. When planting Yilan, the proportion of granular plant material and rotten leaf soil was 4 to 5 and 1 to 5 respectively. All kinds of stiff seedlings and weak seedlings are planted with granular plant materials without any rotten leaf soil. The large granules are placed in the middle and the small ones are placed on the surface. This kind of plant material has good air permeability, while watering, watering is harder in summer and autumn, and some water moss is covered on the basin surface, which can be watered once a day. Winter and spring show obvious advantages: the plant is easy to dry, not affected by freezing and plum rain season, do not worry about rotten roots and seedlings, scorched tail almost does not exist. With the aeration of plant materials, the white silk disease and black spot of orchids decreased relatively, the germination rate increased, the management was convenient, and the drugs used were less than in the past.
Granular plant material has both advantages and disadvantages, but the deficiency is that it does not have any nutrients, and some thin fertilizer must be added properly in watering. Fertilizer is applied every half a month, and foliar fertilizer is sprayed once a month. (Fujian-Wuyi Lanyou)
