Orchid planting materials should be adapted to local conditions

Orchids should be raised in accordance with local conditions, and the materials should not be changed at will. If we do not pay attention to the differences of the respective orchid cultivation environment and change the orchid planting materials at will, it will inevitably bring serious consequences. I have learned a profound lesson because of this.

One day in the autumn of 1999, I went to the local Lanyou's house to enjoy the orchid. As soon as I entered the door of his house, I found that the Chunlan Xiahui plant in the hospital was strong, green and tender, and the leaves had no black spots on the tip of the paste. In addition to envy, can not help but ask the host for advice. Lan you was busy "peddling" his "experience" to me, and pointed to a pile under the tree in front of the door and said, "I use this kind of plant material to put on the pot." When I looked closely, I found that this pile of plant material was made from a mixture of soil, furnace ash, sawdust and metasequoia leaves, which was fine and fertile. In a few days, I will take the car to pull back some snakeskin bags, turn over the basin and change the soil, all using this god plant material. Flowers bloomed in the spring of 2000, and new buds broke out one after another. by the Meiyu season, some of the new seedlings had grown into plants. Who knows, with the hot summer coming at the end of the plum rain season, black spots began to appear on the leaves of new Chunlan seedlings, and then spread to some of the old leaves, and even some of the leaves of Cymbidium also had a pile of black spots on the leaves. although the ideas are exhausted, it is useless to play the role of scissors. In order to prevent further aggravation of the disease, I strengthened water control in autumn, resulting in root tip dryness, leaf tip dryness, flower buds of Chunlan all withered, and dozens of pots of Cymbidium blooming in only one pot.

I have made a careful analysis of this matter and think that the main reason is the misuse of plant materials without taking into account the different environments of orchid cultivation. The Lanyou family lives in a bungalow on the outskirts of the city. Orchids are raised in a large courtyard of more than 50 square meters. Large cherry trees and persimmon trees are planted in the south and west of the courtyard. Branches and leaves can cover a small half of the courtyard. Under the tree is the dirt ground. There are deep underground pools and wide ditches built in the middle of the courtyard, partly covered with precast cement slabs. The north and east of the courtyard are divided into cement floors. The orchid friend put most of the orchids under the trees and by the water, with leaves shading and pool water cooling below; there is no smoke pollution during the day and dew moistens at night. Lanyou often fill the pool and ditch with water and overflow, so that the orchid basin absorbs water naturally, so there is almost no need to water in spring and summer, and the environmental conditions are very ideal. On the contrary, my environment of raising orchids is much worse than it. My family lives in the east second floor of the city, and orchids are raised on the platform connected to the south balcony of my house on the first floor, with an area of less than 20 square meters. In the rainy season, the wind is light and humid, the summer is warm and muggy, and the autumn is windy and dry. And because it is located in the old new village, the community management is poor, the surrounding downstairs is full of big stalls, and the air pollution is serious. There is only a 1-meter-high wall around the platform, which is shaded by a sunshade net in summer and no wind shield in autumn. In the past, I planted orchids with homemade plant material, which was made of vegetable garden soil (humus soil) plus furnace ash and a little river sand. although the environment was poor, I could grow seedlings year after year and flowers bloomed year after year, and the effect was quite good. After using Lanyou's plant material this time, the plant material is too fine and too fat, high humidity and high temperature in Meiyu season and summer, plus open air display, Rain Water drenching, geothermal often steaming, root discomfort, it is bound to be reflected in the leaves, this is a mistake. In autumn, there will be continuous autumn rain, and water control will be strengthened for fear of recurrence of old illness. as a result, excessive water control will lead to withered root tips, inevitably withered leaf tips and damaged flower buds.

Looking at so many pots of orchids with half-cut grass, I can't bear to look back on the past and learn a profound lesson. Fortunately, I found the crux of the problem, changed the plant material in time, reformed the orchid platform and added shading and wind shielding facilities.
