Countermeasures for raising orchids on enclosed balconies in high temperature season
After the Summer Solstice, most parts of our country have entered the high temperature season, and there is often muggy weather of about 35 degrees. The high temperature season is an eventful time for potted orchids. If there is a slight negligence in daily management, it may cause unexpected harm, and orchid growers must be cautious. For the use of closed balconies to raise orchids, I think we should pay attention to three aspects.
First, open the sliding window appropriately and use the temperature difference breeze skillfully.
Hot and muggy is the enemy of raising orchids. Therefore, the high temperature season closed balcony orchid ventilation is very important. Closed balconies generally have push-pull aluminum alloy glass windows that can be freely switched. As long as there is a temperature difference inside and outside the balcony, the degree of opening of the push-pull windows can be used to control convection and form natural ventilation. The sun is shining in summer and there is a heat wave outside the window. Because the closed balcony is limited by direct sunlight in summer, the temperature of the balcony should be 2-5 degrees outside. Therefore, the daytime push-pull window opening can not be too large, generally 20 cm is appropriate, so you can use the temperature difference between the balcony and the window to form natural convection, breeze gently, orchid leaves swaying, just right. If the window is opened too wide, the temperature difference is too small, the shape is not convective, but not well ventilated. Sliding windows can be fully opened at night and on rainy days to replace fresh air. Practice has proved that closed balconies can be opened by sliding windows to form natural convection, generally without electric fans, it is better to have natural ventilation.
Second, humidity should be created according to local conditions, and excessive dryness and humidity should be avoided.
Rapid evaporation in summer and low humidity in sunny weather are the bottlenecks of orchid cultivation on the balcony. Efforts must be made to create a small environment suitable for orchid growth. According to my experience, using the sink to humidify the air in summer is a good way to improve the air humidity. The sink had better be set together with the orchid rack, each layer of the orchid rack should be set up on the sink, and the lower end of the tank should be equipped with a sewage switch to facilitate the discharge of sewage from time to time. The depth of the sink is generally 20-30 cm, filled with water, covered with steel wire mesh, and the orchid basin sits on it, which not only increases the air humidity, but also has a certain cooling effect, killing two birds with one stone. Combined with ground water spraying, the humidity of the balcony can reach about 40% during the day, which can basically meet the humidity requirements of orchids. Air humidity is not the higher the better, especially in summer, high humidity is the source of all diseases of orchids, orchid friends should learn from it. The water evaporation is large in the high temperature season, and the basin soil is easy to dry, so the watering time and times should be flexibly controlled according to the use of pots and plant materials. Generally, it is better to water in the evening and in the morning in summer, and every once in a while, it is best to use the water added with fungicides to bathe the orchid, which not only cleans the orchid leaves, but also replaces the air in the orchid basin. The effect is good, but do not let the new seedling leaf heart accumulate water, in case of coring rot. Summer is the peak season for the growth of orchids, as long as it is moist but not stained, the basin soil is properly wet and is conducive to the development and growth of new buds of orchids, and must not be too dry.
Third, prevention for the main cleaning, no rain thick Miao against orchid disease.
The hot season is also the season of frequent occurrence of orchid diseases and insect pests. In daily management, efforts should be made to avoid diseases and insect pests in accordance with the principle of giving priority to prevention and combining prevention and control. Usually, we should pay attention to the cleanliness and hygiene of the balcony, remove all kinds of dirt in the orchid place in time, and the ground and orchid shelves are often sterilized with lime water, which has a good economic and practical effect. In the environment of high temperature and humidity, orchids are easy to breed scale insects and thrips, which should be killed by drugs in time. Soft rot is the enemy of orchids in summer, improper disposal can easily lead to the necrosis of the whole orchid, which is distressing. Once you find this disease, you should make a prompt decision, turn the basin immediately, and cut off the diseased seedlings and as many nearby seedlings as possible without hesitation. There is still hope for survival after disinfection and replanting of good seedlings. There must be no chance, delay the opportunity of prevention and treatment, and regret.
