Water is the source of all life. Orchids cannot survive without water. Orchids, like other plants, evaporation in plants is directly related to humidity in the air. It absorbs water from the root, contains a variety of nutrients, dissolved mineral trace elements, and plays the function of transporting nutrients, supplying carbohydrates and regulating plant temperature. Therefore, special attention should be paid to the water regulation and management of orchids.

Linghai Lanyan pointed out: "there is a living method for orchids, but there is no plate method." The weather is cloudy and sunny, the place is cold and warm, and the nature of the orchid is different. It just means news. " That is to say, each person's local environment of orchid planting is different, lighting and ventilation are different, the size of orchid pots and cultivation materials are also different; at the same time, the weather is cloudy and sunny, and the cold and warm climate will also change the water requirements of orchids. So it's hard to set a standard. It is indeed a deep knowledge to master watering. This is the key to the success and failure of orchids. Everyone must go through practice before they can master it. Now only some personal opinions are put forward for reference.

First of all, it is necessary to recognize the characteristics and ecological environment of orchids.

Orchids are monocotyledons with fleshy roots, thick leaves, bright waxy surfaces and enlarged pseudobulbs. Roots and pseudocorms can store appropriate moisture for self-regulation during drying. Therefore, it can withstand temporary dryness, not easy to die, strong vitality, resurrection vitality is also great. However, if it is too dry, the pseudocorms and leaves will shrink, which will affect the growth. On the contrary, if there is too much water, there will be constant silting and dampness in the basin, so that the root can not breathe oxygen in the air, and oxygen is one of the important nutrients for plant growth, which not only affects the normal development, but also because the root is soaked for a long time, the growth point of the root will rot, and the root degree will appear water-soaked brown spots, so that a large number of insect bacteria can multiply, resulting in rotten roots, so that water and nutrients can not be absorbed from the roots. At this time, in order to grow, the orchid had to get the necessary water from the leaves and bulbs. In the humid air environment, it can still survive for the time being; in case of dry air or strong sun and wind, the end of the leaf will slowly turn black and dry, the leaf surface will shrink into spots, and the bulb will show concave and convex straight spots in the event of dry air or strong sun and wind blowing. Finally, the whole plant died. Therefore, there are times when it needs to be wet and when it needs to be dry. If the basin is moist for a long time, it will lead to root rot and plant destruction. We should know that the key to watering lies in how to adjust the moisture and ventilation in the basin, that is, to use the circulation method of quick wet and quick drying, so that the orchid will not be too wet and too dry. Sometimes you need a lot of irrigation, sometimes you just spray the foliage; sometimes you water it once or twice a day, and sometimes you don't water it for two or three days. In order to meet the requirements of quick wetting and drying, the cultivation materials must be non-perishable materials with good moisturizing and air permeability, so as to keep the basin moist without stagnant water. In this way, the roots naturally grow well and the plants can be strong.

Secondly, it is necessary to master the method of watering.

Except for special cases (such as a short change of basin, or a low temperature dormancy period below 10 ℃), it is usually fully perfused. Pour water so as to soak through the heart of the basin and allow water to flow out from the bottom of the basin. The purpose is to remove the residual fertilizer, residual medicine and dirty air in the basin, so as to exchange air and cool down in the basin. After watering, we should pay attention to the ventilation in the orchid room. if there is no wind, we can use an electric fan to make the water evaporate quickly. Do not irrigate in case of cloudy and rainy weather, so as to avoid excessive humidity. If the air is dry and the temperature is high, sprinkle water on the floor, walls and flower racks to increase moisture, reduce orchid evaporation and lower the temperature of the orchid room. Wait until the material in the basin is slightly dry before irrigation. Do not only sprinkle water on the basin every day, the water is less than the basin heart, the residual fertilizer in the basin can not be discharged, a large number of anaerobic bacteria multiply in the basin, infringing on the root of Langen, resulting in rotten root. Therefore, the day before and the day after each fertilization, we must pour enough water, so that the residual fertilizer can not be deposited in the basin to avoid fertilizer injury.

The method and degree of watering vary from person to person. Some people like "wet" management, that is, "wet" management, while others prefer "dry" management. In the past, most of the watering methods adopted the "dry method". It was believed that the ancients had the saying of "dry orchid and wet chrysanthemum," but orchids had a certain ability to withstand drought and did not need much water, so they were watered only when the basin noodles were dry and not dry. This method is more suitable for planting orchid in poor sunshine, poor ventilation and winter and spring. If the orchid environment is well ventilated and sunny, it can be managed by "wet method". Especially in summer and autumn, when the temperature is high, there is a large amount of foliar evaporation and a higher requirement for water. Except for rainy days, the ground, walls and pot racks must be drenched before noon, which can not only supplement the water consumption of orchids, but also prevent heat and cool down. If possible, you can use an automatic sprayer, or use a small fan to send moisture into the orchid room. Orchids, like other plants, have a habit that when you are used to "wet" management, once you switch to "dry" management, there is a risk of root rot. Therefore, we can not use the "wet method" and change to the "dry method" at the same time, so as not to endanger the life function of the orchid and affect the normal development.

In short, watering should not be carried out according to the prescribed time, but should pay attention to observe the degree of dryness and wetness of the orchid basin, the material of the basin, or whether the citron at the bottom of the basin is completely drained of water, showing a dry but not dry state, it is the right time to water. If you can see the timing of watering from the degree of dryness and wetness of the orchid basin, and seize the opportunity to water it properly, you will certainly be able to successfully cultivate a strong orchid plant.
