In the practice of orchid cultivation, after 4 large-scale experiments (each time more than 1000 pots), we think that large-scale open-air potted orchids are feasible and successful to select the planting material size and two-layer planting method in the fourth experiment.

(1) better physical properties

Among the eight requirements of the ideal orchid plant, the two with loose air permeability and good drainage are physical properties, while the O-10mm cinder is mainly composed of grayish brown particles, white powder and emulsified carbides baked at high temperature, which is characterized by looseness, non-stickiness and honeycomb pores, aeration pores of 38.1% and water holding capacity of 17%, which fully meet the requirements of orchid growth.

(2) the chemical composition is better

The sampling test results of coal cinder are as follows:

From the test results, it can be seen that apart from the lack of nitrogen, cinder is suitable for orchid planting because of its complete range of other elements needed for plant growth, especially the high content of phosphorus and potassium. There is little demand for nitrogen for orchid growth, and nitrogen deficiency can be supplemented by artificial fertilization.

In addition, the high temperature of the cinder produced after combustion has killed germ spores, pests and eggs.
