Characteristics and control of orchid virus disease

Orchids have virus diseases, which affect the growth and reproduction of orchids, and lose their ornamental value. Therefore, active prevention and control of virus disease is an important measure to cultivate orchids.

1. Orchid mosaic disease (Cvmbidium mo-saic): the disease is characterized by causing mosaic or necrosis on the new leaves, or chlorotic spots on the veins of the leaves, resulting in local necrosis on Cartland's inoculated leaves; if co-infected with TMV-O, the bud will produce brown necrosis.

Second, tooth petal orchid ring spot disease (Odontojossum ringspot): the disease is characterized by the formation of ring spots on the tooth orchid, mosaic on the Jian orchid, and necrotic spots on the inoculated leaves of Cartranychus.

Third, orchid virus disease (Orchid Virus Disease): the disease is characterized by the formation of brown round or oblong necrotic spots on the leaves of orchids. Small disease spots can be merged into large disease spots, the leaves are easily withered and yellow, and when the flowers are seriously discolored or deformed.

The comprehensive prevention and control methods of the above three virus diseases are as follows:

First, some valuable virus-free orchids must be isolated from the orchid production base. Do not buy orchid plants with viruses. Newly introduced orchids need to be isolated and cultivated together with a large number of orchids only when virus-free is confirmed.

Second, in gardening operations such as ramet and turning pot, the diseased orchid leaves should be removed and attention should be paid to prevent infection.

Third, washing roots should be washed with running water.

Fourth, peat, moss and gravel used to cultivate orchids should be disinfected.

Fifth, special attention should be paid to hygienic management and operation, and plant remains should be burned in time.
