Effect of Light on the growth of Orchid
Orchids are shade-tolerant plants, so in general cultivation and management, it is considered that it is only necessary to plant orchids in shade and pay attention to the management of soil, planting materials, water and fertilizer, but they do not realize that the effect of light on the growth of orchids is extremely important. it is the most effective external factor that determines the exuberant and normal growth of orchids.
Light is not only a source of energy for orchids to produce nutrients, but also a necessary condition for the formation of chlorophyll. Orchids are affected by light everywhere from the basic physiological processes such as the formation of chloroplasts, the opening and closing of stomata, the absorption of nutrients and water, the proliferation of cytoplasm, the formation of flower buds, and the metabolism of life activities such as the manufacture of organic matter, making honey, releasing fragrance and so on.
1. Each variety of orchid has different requirements for light conditions, such as spring orchid and cymbidium need strong light, Jianlan, ink orchid and cold orchid need weak light. The same variety of orchids have different requirements for light in different seasons and different growth stages, such as dawn, astigmatism, weak light in summer and autumn, avoid direct sunlight, prevent sunburn, and the temperature is too high, resulting in orchid plant diapause, not much photosynthate, no enough nutrients, a small number of "flower primordia", can not form flower buds. On the contrary, if the shade is too dense, the scattered light is too little, and the photosynthetic intensity is low, which can not meet the formation and development of "flower primordium", it will affect flowering; at the end of autumn, strong light can be given for 6-8 hours to promote flower bud differentiation and enrich its own growth nutrients; the human room should be placed in a place with strong light in winter.
Second, the whole shade leaves of orchids are long, dark green and thin, and the flowers are thin, and Also said: "to sun for a long time and the end of the leaf is not charred."
Third, when the flower thunder breaks the bud, the calyx is exposed and the petals are open, avoid direct sunlight, otherwise the petals are easy to burn or the color is yellowing, and the flowers are wrinkled and do not stretch; if there is no light or insufficient light before flowering, the color is not beautiful.
Fourth, orchids like scattered light and are afraid of direct strong light. Scattered light has sufficient energy for photosynthesis, which can accumulate organic matter and facilitate the formation of "flower primordia".
5. Taller shading trees should be planted around the orchid nursery to shade the orchids during the dense period of their leaves, and when the orchids need a lot of light, it is the time when their branches and leaves gradually fall. The orchid shed must be covered with a shade shed that can be freely adjusted and opened in the morning and evening, so as to adjust the transmittance needed for the growth of orchids, creating dawn in the morning, scattered light at noon, western sun in the afternoon, weak light in the evening, rain and dew at night, at least 2-4 hours a day suitable for light, 40% transparency, the orchid germination rate, flowering rate, as well as leaf growth and leaf color will be in an ideal state.
