There is no precedent in the history of orchid cultivation with cinder as planting material. This bold attempt not only solved a series of problems encountered in large area open-air potted orchids, but also achieved good results.

(1) ordinary orchids are growing vigorously

At present, there are more than 17000 pots of orchids cultivated with cinder in the greening team Orchid Garden. The signs of vigorous growth are: 1. The new root grows much faster, the old root is longer and bifurcated, the root is stout and fat, and the color is snow-white and crystal clear, especially the more than 1000 pots of magnolia purchased in Shunde, which were originally planted in pond mud, the roots and black seedlings are weak, and now the momentum of rejuvenation is strong; 2. the phenomenon of dry leaves of mountain orchids is reduced and the life span of old hope is prolonged; 3. The newly sprouted leaf buds are strong and many. 4. The mature seedling leaves are short and thick (compared with the mother generation), the leaves are green and moist, and there are no black spots and focal points.

(2) the variation and inheritance of orchids are good.

We planted Jinzui, Phnom Penh, Silver mouth and Silver Edge orchids with whole coal cinder as planting material. the leaves of the new seedlings were shorter, wider and thicker than their mother generation, the lines of gold and silver were clearer, the leaves were bright and oily, and the heredity and continuity of line art were better.

(3) to save investment, reduce costs and increase efficiency

Using cinder as planting material, large-area open-air potted orchids are successful, which not only saves the total investment in the construction of rain-proof orchid shed and its ancillary facilities, but also reduces the cultivation cost and increases the income.

1. Using coal cinder as planting material to plant orchids can solve the problem of rotten roots and dead seedlings, improve the survival rate and reproduction rate of orchids, and thus increase the commodity rate.

2. The cost of using coal cinder as planting material per pot is 0.10 yuan, which is 20 times and 30 times lower than that of 2 yuan with pond mud and 3 yuan with ceramsite.

3. Because the orchid cultivated with cinder belongs to soilless cultivation, there are fewer diseases and insect pests, so it is convenient for orchid export quarantine and reduce the cost.

4. The use of cinder with suitable particle size to plant orchids in two layers improves the labor efficiency by 100%, saves labor and time, and is more suitable for large-scale basin turning and transplanting.
