This year is a year of disaster for our country. The north and south floods have suffered heavy losses, which is thought-provoking, as well as in my family.

In April, the weather gets warmer and the spring orchids run out. At this time, the first International Flower Festival was held in Shanghai, and the couple planned to go to Shanghai to do business. Before leaving, move the orchid to the balcony outside the earthen house. According to common sense, the April sun will not be too strong, and it is OK for the orchid not to block the sun. Last year, our house was renovated, and the orchids originally placed on the ground floor were moved upstairs, and the sunshine time was much longer than before. In the few days after we left home, the weather was particularly good, almost like the early summer, and before we could return, the orchid plant was scorched and spotted, which made people sad.

Who knows, it never rains but it pours. When the rainy season comes in early June, the high temperature and humidity, the disease resistance of injured orchid plants is greatly reduced, and the new water source may be unclean. As a result, a few potted orchids have developed a terrible pathogen, white silk disease, that has never happened before. The most serious condition was a pot of butterfly orchids. When I first found the white mycelium was around the bulb in the center of the basin, I took it out of the orchid rack and sprayed it with "carbendazim." the next morning, the whole basin was white, and the mycelium had spread to the edge of the basin. Fast. The cold state of 46 is surprising. As a result, the basin soil is urgently poured out, and the soil is full of white filamentous bacteria. Most of the roots have rotted away, and all the new grass has rotted away from the base. I picked up the pot and the orchid plant heavily and washed it in the stream. After sorting out the rotten roots and grass, I cooled and dried slightly, first disinfected with potassium permanganate and then re-soaked carbendazim. The newly replaced soil is also treated at high temperature, and then the orchid is planted in a new basin.

About a week later, the white mycelium made a comeback. I was busy searching for all the information related to germs in my family. In the fourth issue of "Chinese Orchid" in 1996, I found a way to treat white silk disease with "killing spirits". I thought that this would be saved. I was really overjoyed, and my inner meaning was indescribable. And immediately cleaned up the orchid plant again, the orchid pot and orchid soil were also replaced, and the diseased part was sprayed with "killing spirit" and replanted.

After another week, the white mycelium made a comeback, which really made me helpless. Had to spray the bulb again, and then went to the county's "crop hospital" for information, and bought back a bag of "triazole copper" for pouring. Learn from the bitter experience, this is really understand the difficult treatment of white silk disease, had to seek advice from the orchid experts.

First of all, he dialed the number of Mr. Xu Dongsheng in Fujian and went unanswered twice, and then dialed the number of Mr. Chen Shaomin of the Orchid Family of Guangdong. His family said that in the factory, the company said that in the factory, the company still could not get in touch with several phones one after another. Then he dialed Mr. Ma Xiaoshao, director of Guangdong Shaoguan Orchid Science Research Institute, and got through as soon as he dialed. I explained the situation. Mr. Ma recommended me to use his Orchid Chungjing, so the medicine can decompose the sclerotia. I remitted money on the same day and wrote a letter of help to Professor Liu Qingyong, editor-in-chief of Chinese Orchid, hoping to give advice in the midst of my busy schedule. Five days later, I first received the medicine from Mr. Ma. I combined with "triazole copper" for comprehensive treatment of spraying, pouring and immersion, and the condition was basically controlled. At this time, when it was time for the college entrance examination, I thought Professor Liu must be very busy and would not necessarily reply, but before long, I received a warm personal letter from Professor Liu, advising me to try Dakening ointment, a fungus medicine produced by Yang Sen in Xi'an. Due to the first use of Mr. Ma's "orchid fungus insect net" has seen the effect, so did not use "Dakening".

But in October, another case occurred.

At this time is the season of autumn orchid fragrance, friends brought a cluster of open branches of green, side calyx side by side, hanging under the large lip without reversing the four orchids, said to be autumn orchids. I see the flower pattern is OK, but the fragrance and leaf quality are exactly the same as Xia Hui (Jiuzilan). The grass is very weak, with only one seedling of four-leaf semi-adult grass and three seedlings of less than five centimeters of grass, all of which are only seven or eight centimeters long without a root tip. Why does Xia Hui blossom in autumn? I think it may be due to the poor planting environment, the residual roots and leaves leave a weak flower bud, which fails to deliver nutrients, resulting in a delay in flowering. The growth of this orchid is really too weak, but also afraid of carrying germs, so after washing with "potassium permanganate" soak for half an hour, generally I do not use. After drying in the shade for two days, the white mycelium was found on the basin half a month later. I felt that the situation was not good. I found that there were a lot of white hairs under the corm, and the leaves at the base of the grass were also rotted, and one centimeter above the root fracture was also rotted. After washing again, I soaked in "orchid fungus and insect net" for two hours, cut off the roots half a centimeter after cold drying, dipped in purple potion, painted the rotting parts of corms and leaves with "Dakening", and planted them in boiled coarse river sand the next day. A week later, white hyphae still appeared, but in much less quantity than before. I used the "orchid fungus and insect net" to pour it again, and the next day I used the solution of "Dakening" and exchanged it three times a week, so that the stubborn disease of white silk disease could really be subdued. It was only then that Xia Hui saved the seedlings, and no germs have been found so far. Now other bluegrass is growing well.

However, that pot of butterfly orchids cannot stand repeated twists and turns, its vitality is greatly damaged, and the effect of "Mianshiling" is too strong (I once sprayed on a pot of autumn orchids with ant colonies, but the half of the grass sprayed withered and died, perhaps because I used it improperly), and it was difficult to recover. I feel sorry that more than a dozen seedlings of valuable orchid have died one after another in the heat. Fortunately, another pot was not infected, otherwise, the original seedling of this plant would be lost.

With this article, I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to Mr. Ma Xiaoshao and Professor Liu Qingyong for their assistance. I would like to add glory to the Chinese orchid industry and benefit more orchid lovers. (Zhou Weiqi)
