Study on cultivation substrate of Phalaenopsis
① Different culture media have obvious influence on the growth of Phalaenopsis leaves. Among the four substrates we tested, D pearlite + coconut chaff (2:1) substrate was more beneficial to the growth of Phalaenopsis leaves, followed by C fern root + coconut chaff. These two substrates could make Phalaenopsis grow and develop under suitable humidity because of their porosity and moisture retention. Especially in summer and autumn. The other two substrates were granular, and although they had good air permeability, they had poor moisture retention, so they were not suitable for cultivation in Guangzhou.
(2) Different culture medium also had obvious influence on flower bud formation and flower peduncle development of Phalaenopsis.
Among the five substrates tested, D pearlite + coconut chaff was still the best substrate for cultivation, with high flower bud formation rate, early and rapid development of flower pedicels, followed by C fern root + coconut chaff. Add a little peat soil in ceramsite matrix to keep moisture, and ceramsite matrix is good, flower bud rate is high. (Wang Huaiyu)
