Those with a particle diameter of less than 3 mm are sand and those larger than 3 mm are gravel. Sand can be divided into thick and thin, and its water retention depends on the size of the particles. The smaller the particles, the more the water retention, the larger the particles, the less the water retention. The sand material of planting orchid should choose pure river sand, and sand containing salt or calcareous material should not be used. The sand containing too much limestone is alkaline, which will fix inorganic iron and other elements. Pure sand is generally used as the medium of cutting and sowing seedling bed. It can also be used as a medium for orchid planting. Because the river sand does not contain nutrients, no microporosity, fertilizer absorption, moisture retention and fertilizer retention is too poor, the effect of long-term planting orchid alone is not ideal.

However, river sand is an excellent cultivation medium. Its advantages are: 1) good ventilation; 2) root-promoting effect; 3) stable physical and chemical properties; 4) good drainage. Therefore, river sand is often used as one of the substrates in various mixtures. Some people advocate using all-sand orchid to induce art, but the author has tried it for many years, but there is no stable performance and no report of successful cases in this area. The reason for the mutation of the orchid plant is still a mystery that has not yet been fully solved, which is complicated and confusing. The reasons for performing in the media reports are mostly conjecture, but they have not been able to say why, and the discussion in this area is still lack of sufficient scientific basis. One-hole view, do not dare self-respect, forgive me to speak falsely, you do not laugh, give advice for hope!
