Plants cultivated by humans as horticultural products depend entirely on the supply of water from the growers. Whether the water supply is timely or not has a great impact on the growth and life of plants.

Watered for three years

Watering can be said to be one of the most important tasks in cultivating Lanhui. I often hear a saying from the older generation of Yulan:

"watered for three years." It means that if you want to master the knack of watering when cultivating Lanhui, it will take at least 3 years to explore, which shows that watering is not easy.

Many orchid people believe that as long as they are proficient in watering, orchid cultivation will be more than 60% successful, because after knowing how to water it, at least it will not cause Lanhui to wither due to improper watering.

Literally, the word "watering" seems to be an easy job without learning. However, when we take a closer look, we can see that the watering we are talking about here is not a simple question of "watering more in summer and how often in winter". It must be different according to the climate of the year, the environment of the cultivation site, the location, the size of the pot, the nature of the plant, the state of the orchid plant, the species of Orchid, and so on. Therefore, strictly speaking, there is no fixed and constant method for watering. Only according to personal accumulated cultivation experience, from the actual process of orchid cultivation, can we find a set of watering methods for their own orchids.

Basic watering method

Although there is no universal watering method, there is also a most basic method for reference in the cultivation of Lanhui.

Generally speaking, when the water grass covered with plant material on the surface of the pot is dry, it means it is time to water. Secondly, the water used to irrigate Lanhui had better be stored in advance for a day before use, so that the temperature of the water can be the same as that of the orchid room, so that accidents will not occur as a result of watering.

In the minds of ordinary orchid farmers, there is such an idea that you can't water white in summer so as not to cause water injury or rot roots due to the heat of water in the basin. In winter, on the contrary, you should choose to water in the sunny morning, if you water in the evening, I am afraid the water will get cold and frostbite Langen.

The watering classics of an expert in orchid cultivation

The watering method described above is believed to be generally accepted and the most widely used basic method.

However, in the past, the author came across an orchid expert who had never met and was talking about the watering classics with another orchid friend. The expert unreservedly poured out his personal experience and experience of watering for more than 10 years and told them everything.

According to this expert, the general saying that you can't water it in the morning is actually not true. He said that for more than 10 years, he watered the orchid basin whenever he found it dry, regardless of whether it was watered in the morning or afternoon, or sometimes at noon. His Lanhui has never had any bad problems caused by watering.

Moreover, the expert said, in fact, there is no so-called "water injury" at all. He believes that the so-called "water injury" is purely a disease harmed by germs. With regard to this view, he once explained: "if water injuries occur when the sun is exposed to the sun after watering, then I would like to ask you that it often rains in the morning or afternoon in Taiwan, and the sun comes out soon after the rain. If the previous water injury theory can be established, in this case of sunny after rain, those flowers, grass and trees outside will not all get water injury? But what's the truth? "

"in fact, the so-called 'water injury' on the leaves of Cymbidium is not caused by exposure to the sun after watering. In my personal experience, it should be caused by bacteria. The reason is very simple. If we say that water injury is caused by the sun, it can be regarded as a symptom of physical quality. according to reason, it will not be passed on to the next generation, but for most adult plants that suffer from water injury, as long as they are not treated properly, the proportion of the next generation suffering from water injury is almost 100%. On the other hand, after disinfection, the next generation of disinfected plants will not see symptoms of water injury. "

Although the statement of this expert has not been clearly confirmed at present, it has a certain reference value. According to this expert, as long as the orchid room is well ventilated, the watering department can be watered at any time during the day. I wonder if readers have any objection. (Zhang Fengrong)
