Symptoms and pathogens of Gladiolus guolanensis
When the orchid grass is sprouting and growing in spring and summer, some leaves suddenly receive water and shrink, look carefully, the base of the new bud of orchid grass is rotten, the heart leaves or group leaves can be pulled out, and in serious cases, the head and root of the orchid rot, so that the whole orchid grass is dead. This phenomenon is used to be called sitting Gladiolus (Note: Guangdong calls orchid plant Gladiolus).
In the past, there was no diagnosis of this disease, which was called "bacterial soft rot", "base rot", "root rot", "Phytophthora" and so on. Guangdong is used to calling it "sitting calamus disease". I attended the International Symposium on Orchid Industry held in Chencun Flower World in Guangdong Province in April 2004, Lu Li, Pesticide and Toxicology Laboratory of Taiwan Council of Agriculture. The professor came to the affirmative conclusion that this is a "genetic disease", caused by Fusarium oxysporum invasion of yellow leaves, withering, stem rot and so on. Professor Lu has studied the disease of Chinese orchid for more than 20 years and is a senior orchid disease expert. His conclusion is authoritative. From 2002 to 2004, relevant mainland experts did a lot of work on the epidemic, pathogen isolation and pathogenicity determination of Gladiolus in Guangdong, and also confirmed that the pathogen of "calamus disease" was Fusarium.
