Orchids suffer from diseases and insect pests, mainly due to poor ventilation, lack of light, poor drainage, excessive humidity and foreign bacteria infection. Therefore, the prevention of orchid diseases and insect pests should be given priority to, prevention is more important than treatment. First, we should pay attention to ventilation, lighting, and drainage to create a good environment; second, we should cultivate strong orchid seedlings to enhance their resistance to diseases; and third, we should strictly quarantine and disinfect them to prevent the spread of foreign germs and insect pests. In the future, pesticides should be sprayed regularly to eliminate diseases and insects before they are victimized.

The insect pests of orchids are common in the amount of shell insects, which can be brushed out manually or with 40% omethoate, or 1000 times of 50% marathon, or 5% furolactan and methyl phosphate around the basin soil have good control effect. Common diseases such as anthrax, also known as black spot, mostly occur in the plum rain season, orchid leaves appear black-brown spots, serious can make the orchid plant die. It can be sprayed with 50% carbendazim or 70% methyl topiramate 800 times, once every 10 to 15 days, 2 to 3 times in a row. White silk disease, also known as mycosis, produces white fungus green on the soil surface and the stem of the orchid plant, which causes the stem and root to rot. The diseased plant must be disinfected and sprayed with Bordeaux solution or pentachloronitrobenzene 500 times solution. Brown rot, which is the source of bacterial disease, develops so fast that the soft rot of the whole plant or pseudobulm should be cut off in time, and the diseased plant should be cut off in time, with 1500-2000 times of trimethoprazole, or 0.5% of topiramate, or 0.5% of Bordeaux liquid should be sprayed 2-3 times to achieve the control effect. Some pesticides can treat a variety of bacteria and viruses, but the drug dose must be accurately controlled and operated according to the instructions of the drug. If the dose is too small, it can not achieve the purpose of prevention and treatment. if the dose is too high, it will cause drug damage and cause the orchid plant to die. And pesticides are toxic, applied on the balcony, pay special attention to human and animal safety, to prevent environmental pollution.

Raising orchids on the balcony should also pay attention to ventilation and temperature regulation. Ventilation provides fresh air for orchids and promotes metabolism. Therefore, it is necessary to open more windows to make the air convection, which is helpful to adjust the temperature and humidity. But it is necessary to prevent the hot wind in summer, the dry wind in autumn and the cold wind in winter. Temperature regulation is mainly to prevent heat in summer and cold in winter. To prevent heat, you should pay attention to shade and prevent the scorching sun from being exposed to the direct sun. To prevent the cold, it is necessary to build a greenhouse to prevent frost damage and create a good environment for orchids to thrive. (Shou Jicheng, Zhejiang)
