Watering method throughout the year
Orchids love to grow in cool, moist environments. Moist by no means that a lot of water must be poured into the soil, but that it must be given the necessary humidity for growth. Orchids have thick leaves, cuticle, plump pseudobulbs and fleshy roots. They can store certain nutrients and accumulate certain water for self-regulation during short-term drying, so they are not easy to dry quickly. But the soil is too dry, pseudo-corm dry or other organizations out of water and affect metabolism. Such as too much water, resulting in water in the soil, poor permeability, blocking the root permeability, and affect the absorption of water, easy to cause rotten roots.
After the "beginning of spring", the climate gradually warms, the orchid turns to the normal growth stage, the stamens gradually grow, and the soil should be kept moist at this time. At noon on a sunny day, remove potted orchids in batches to the outside sun to wash away the dirt on the leaves to avoid clogging the pores and keep the mud layer wet (especially the high basin type, the mud layer is high out of the basin, easy to dry). If you find that the basin mud layer is too white, you must water it several times until there is water leaking from the bottom drain hole.
After "Jingzhe", spring orchid and cymbidium without flowers have just been removed from indoor outdoor cultivation, exposed to wind and sun, the pot soil is easy to dry, especially the new root tips and buds of the root system begin to sprout, so daily watering should be frequent, but the water quantity should not be too much.
After "summer", the flowering period of spring orchid and cymbidium has passed. For potted orchids after flowering, the soil humidity should be slightly drier than that of ordinary potted orchids at this time, because most of them have a short semi-dormant period after flowering, slow growth and less evaporation of leaves. From June, the weather is getting hotter, the growth speed of seed grass (i.e. bud) is accelerated, and it begins to break out of the soil gradually. At this time, more attention should be paid to the soil humidity. The leaves should be sprayed with clean water frequently, and the orchid platform should be wetted to form a certain humid micro-climate, which is conducive to the growth and release of leaves of seed grass. However, when entering Huangmei in rainy season, it is often moldy and rainy, resulting in excessive humidity. At this time, it is necessary to control watering or even move to shelter from rain. Otherwise, black spots and blocks often occur on the leaves (commonly known as partridge spots). This condition is most susceptible to cymbidium fermentale and veggie leaves. After entering the summer, turn to high temperature and hot period, in addition to strengthening shade, but also often carefully maintain a certain humidity of the soil. If you find that the humidity in the shade is not enough, the basin surface is easy to dry, and the green grass grows old and soft, you must sprinkle water on the upper and lower parts of the orchid platform and the sidewalk or adjacent walls to increase moisture and reduce the water consumption in the orchid body.
After white dew, the temperature gradually turns to autumn cool, and there is night dew moisture, new grass growth has stopped, orchid stamen breaks ground and grows slowly, at this time can reduce the amount of irrigation, but if the pot mud is found dry, it must be watered to humidity.
After the Mid-Autumn Festival, the temperature is often high, the air is too dry, such as insufficient watering, the mud layer in the basin often occurs fine cracks or peeling with the basin wall, etc. This phenomenon is commonly known as "water chestnut dryness" in Jiangnan area, the orchid basin is most vulnerable to injury, affecting growth, flower stamen withering, or flower stiffness in the coming year, flower peduncle shortening. So, water it morning and evening.
During late autumn, potted orchid new grass has changed from new green to old thick, stamen coat shell can be seen, if it rains for a long time, black spots are most likely to occur on new leaves, and stamen often has "rotten clothes"(that is, bract rot) phenomenon. At this time should try to shelter from rain, or reduce the amount of irrigation, more sunlight exposure. When the weather is getting colder, water it every few days and let it be exposed to sunlight all day.
Annual watering degree, but also according to the actual temperature of the season, pot size, plant number, variety characteristics, according to local conditions. Watering time, generally speaking, spring and autumn should be carried out in the morning, hot summer period should be before sunrise and sunset is appropriate, early winter and early spring period can be at sunrise when the top, after the temperature is slightly warmer watering. During the winter, the house must be watered around noon on a sunny day.
Watering generally wait until the pot surface must be dry (the soil can be white), for example: the first day of first spraying, and then watering the next day, watering must be divided into spring morning and evening watering, summer morning and evening watering, autumn morning and evening watering, winter noon watering. Water must be thorough. Foliage spray thoroughly, can be soaked thoroughly with pots and barrels, generally soaking for two or three minutes.
Watering tools: spray gun for orchid watering, orchid watering is very particular: fine, uniform, transparent, so that orchids do not rot roots, do not pump heart, multiple seedlings, fewer insects. The company spray nozzle using Japanese technology, made of laser perforation. Here, especially recommended to the majority of Lan friends.
In addition to watering with spray guns, there are dipping basin method, that is, the orchid basin immersed in water, let the water through the bottom hole, slowly penetrate the mud layer. This method, although it can make the basin mud absorb enough water, but if the newly planted basin orchid just turned over should not be immersed too deep, only the waist of the basin can be. If too deep and basin surface, due to the pressure of water, the basin is easy to be infiltrated by water floating, resulting in loose mud layer, roots can not be well matched with the soil. When it is taken out in a saturated state, excessive water can be gradually discharged, but the mud pile has been loosened. At this time, it is necessary to gently press the table with your fingers to promote more compact. If the department is too old basin mouth, use dip basin method to make up humidity, or one of the ideal methods.
There is a folk proverb in our country: "dry orchid wet chrysanthemum," which should be understood and understood relatively. This only means that two kinds of plants require different degrees of water. Although orchids prefer to be dry, they actually prefer to grow in a dry, moist environment. Our ancestors of orchid art said: "Spring is moist, summer and autumn are moist, winter must be moist with dryness," which fully explains the truth of orchid humidity requirements in different periods.
