Experiment on Water Control of Plant material of Orchid
Some people say: it is more and more difficult to raise orchids.
I said: it is not difficult to raise orchids, water control is the key.
The theme of this paper is: the control test method of moisture content in orchid basin plant. It clearly points out: when will the orchid pot be watered? How much water? In order to make the orchid leaves flourish.
With regard to the principle of watering orchid pots, it can be summed up in many books on orchid cultivation: orchids like to moisten and dry, so they are watered as soon as they are dry, Rao Ze Rao is thorough, and it is appropriate to keep the soil water content at 40% Rou 50%. There are a variety of methods to master, but no matter which one, it is more difficult as a beginner to raise orchids.
Through groping, I found a water control method of orchid pot plant (soil cultivation). They are: inserting method, digging method and weighing method. Over the past year, the orchids I raised in this way have blossomed in pots without rotting roots and dead seedlings, and are growing well. Now the method will be briefly described later, please raise orchid elders to correct, for beginners to raise orchid reference.
I have three methods for controlling and testing the moisture content of orchid basin plants (soil cultivation):
(1) the method of inserting a lot is to insert a bamboo chopstick into an orchid basin, pull out the bamboo chopsticks at a certain time, and touch the middle of the bamboo chopsticks with your fingers. If the fingers feel that the bamboo chopsticks are very cold (cold) and have water marks, the moisture content must be between > 50% and 70%; if the fingers feel that the bamboo sticks are not very cold and there are no water marks, the moisture content should be greater than or equal to 35%, 50%; if the bamboo sticks are not cold, the moisture content should be less than or equal to 35%. I summarize this section as follows (Table 1).
(2) pick the basin soil to measure tide; that is, in the orchid basin, pick the basin soil (preferably three or four points) along the 3cm-4cm depth below the edge topsoil (preferably three or four points). If you refer to the idle size, knead the soil in the big finger and index finger to observe its state. For example, in the case of blocks (pieces), the moisture content is greater than or equal to 35% and 60%. If it is in the form of powder, its moisture content is less than 35%. I summarize this section as follows (Table 2).
The moisture content is 45%. 55% is easy to control, and the water control rate is 87.5% in my experiment.
(3) weighing method: this method is the most accurate method for measuring water content. I tried it 20 times in the last year. After using the predicted values of the above methods (1) and (2), the weighing method was used to test it, and its accuracy was 70% and 75%. That is to say, it is advisable to use any method (1), (2) or (3). The data of my experiment with this method are as follows: empty pot 5% orchid grass 5% dry pot and plant material 414 g, the total moisture content of orchid pot plant material (soil) is as follows:
(1150-15415) / 414 X 100% / 153.60%
It is not difficult to see that the total weight of the orchid basin after immersion (pouring) water (115%) minus the sum of the empty pot, bluegrass, dry soil and fillers (514g), that is, the weight of the soaked orchid basin water (636g), divided by the dry culture weight (414g) multiplied by 100%, the result is 153.6%, that is, the moisture content of the orchid basin plant (soil).
The following is a description of the situation of growing flowers and the relevant data after I have done the water control experiment.
The orchid I raise is Chunlan Duoxiang 6 seedlings (two clusters), which are planted together in a plastic pot with a diameter of 15cm and a high 12cm. The plant material used is mixed soil. They are humus, peat soil and rotten wood each account for about 1/3. My experimental orchid pot is often placed in the hall from the south to the north. It is well lit and well ventilated all the year round. The orchid (experimental orchid) grew five seedlings and opened a fragrance last spring and summer. Three of them are very strong.
A variety of data are summarized as shown in Table 3.
The highest and lowest moisture content of orchid basin plants can be seen from the above two statistical tables, the best state of orchid basin moisture content is: high is 90%, low is 70%. In particular, it should be pointed out here that the lowest moisture content of orchid pots is 335% and 50%. If orchid pots are kept for a period of time, they should be watered (immersed).
Summary: from the above, it is not difficult to see the conclusion of my experiment: when the moisture content of the orchid basin is greater than or equal to 35%-50%, the orchid basin should be watered. I think this is the first step in growing orchids. According to books (materials) on orchid cultivation, the moisture of orchid pots has been controlled, and orchids are 70% sure. I agree with this view. However, in order to raise orchids well, we should also do a series of management work, such as temperature (daylighting), humidity, disinfestation and fertilization. Then the bluegrass will be full of flowers and leaves in return for the master's "service".
