The fruit ripens and the seeds fall off, leaving only a membranous septum, such as cicada wings, belonging to the cruciferous mustard family. Its scientific name is in honor of botanist Aven Nelson. It is now regarded as a separate genus, and this genus is only one species of Cardamine cicadae.
