Aiyuzi is an endemic plant in Taiwan. ​​ is mainly distributed in the middle and low elevations of the Central Mountains. Its plants are not heat-resistant, it is difficult to grow on flat land, and because of the lack of breeding techniques for Aiyu wasps, farmers can only go up the mountain to collect wild Aiyu fruits. The main harvest time of Aiyu seed is in January and August, and the pollinating insect is "Aiyu wasp". At present, the production area of Aiyuzi is about 500 hectares, and the producing areas are concentrated in Nantou, Chiayi, Kaohsiung and Taitung.

Leaves long elliptic-ovate, 7-12 cm long and 3-5 cm wide, abaxially densely rust-colored pilose; figs oblong, 6-8 cm long, 3-4 cm in diameter, surface hairy, apically acuminate, navel raised; peduncle short, ca. 1 cm long, densely hirsute.

Wu Dengzhen, deputy director of the agricultural improvement farm in Miaoli District, said that at the beginning, excellent male plants were selected from the wild species of Aiyuzi and an ideal male plant system was established so that Aiyu wasps could breed in it. When the wasp matures, it will drill out the fruit and enter the female plant to help pollinate. It took 15 years for Miao to change the field, and finally selected and bred a variety of Aiyuzi suitable for artificial cultivation, which was officially named "Miaoli No. 1" and "Miaoli No. 2". The technical transfer was completed three years ago, and it is expected to reach the level of mass production this year and can begin to promote it.

Lin Mengjun, an associate researcher in the seedling reform field who is responsible for testing the growth conditions of Aiyuzi and guiding the pollination techniques of Aiyu wasps, pointed out that "Miaoli No. 1" has good insect-resistant characteristics, and the infection rate of glue insects is reduced, and the fruit is larger. "Miaoli No. 2", on the other hand, mainly has a large number of fruits and early growth characteristics, and can be harvested one month earlier than Aiyuzi in the same period. At the same time, the yields of the two varieties are relatively high, and an average of 20-25 kg of Aiyu seed fruit can be produced per year, which is three times that of the general flat varieties, which is very suitable for organic and friendly cultivation.
