Morphological characteristics of Bauhinia chinensis

Evergreen trees, 6-10 m tall. Leaves round or reniform, apical bifid, rounded obtuse, similar to sheep's hoof, glabrous above, sparsely pubescent below, leathery, usually wider than leaves long; trees have many branches, branchlets slender, hairy; red or purple panicles, simple flowers about palm size, with flowers similar to orchids. The bark is dark brown and nearly smooth. The flowering period is from November to April of the following year, with the peak in March.
