Winter, how to strengthen the maintenance of orchids is related to the next year orchids vigorous growth and flowering of the key. In order to conserve orchids in winter, different management measures must be taken according to different varieties and characteristics of orchids. According to the practical experience of orchid cultivation in recent years, the author believes that the following conservation and management measures must be taken in order to manage orchid cultivation well during winter:

First, enter the room to keep warm into winter, the weather is getting colder, especially often affected by the cold current, so the orchids placed outdoors must be moved into the indoor sun in time; if you live in a building, it is better to place the orchids in a closed balcony facing the sun. This orientation, sooner or later can receive sunlight irradiation, orchid growth, budding, flowering is extremely beneficial. The temperature of orchids overwintering in the house should be controlled between 5-15℃. If the room temperature is too low, it will not play a role in cold and warmth. Too high, it will also affect the dormancy of orchids. However, the winter cold orchid and black orchid should be kept at a slightly higher temperature, but it should not exceed 15℃. If the room temperature is too high, the flower stem grows slowly, the bud development is poor, and it is easy to make the formed bud atrophy and die. For cold-resistant spring orchid, it needs 3-4 weeks of low temperature of about 0℃ to complete the role of spring dormancy and vernalization, and then spring orchid can bloom. Therefore, it is most suitable to control the room temperature between 3-8℃ for winter.

Second, control watering "summer and autumn can not be dry, winter and spring can not be wet", this is the previous summary of orchid cultivation experience. Orchids are mostly dormant in winter, and their physiological activities are almost stopped. At this time, they need less water, and the pot soil is slightly moist and can safely overwinter. If the basin soil is really very dry, then in sunny and warm weather around noon, with the same or similar water spray irrigation with room temperature, so that the basin soil slightly wet that is, do not flood, to prevent the basin soil frozen or basin soil too wet rotten roots. It is best to water with rain and snow, not with tap water just released. If there is no rain and snow water need to be poured with tap water, tap water must be dried for one or two days, put chlorine can be poured. When watering, should pour into from basin edge, make it flow into flower root gradually, stop till flower root is wet. Avoid watering leaves and orchids.

Third, fertilizer control and enhancement orchids generally do not need fertilizer during hibernation. Orchid root thick long without fibrous root, root fungus symbiosis. Orchids usually change soil and pots one or two years, the soil contains sufficient nutrients, winter can be completely without fertilizer. However, spring orchid, cold orchid in the growth period, can be sprayed less phosphorus and potassium fertilizer leaves, available 1500 times 0. 2% potassium dihydrogen phosphate or complex trace elements. In addition, indoors, orchids can give more light, which light is insufficient, available light supplement. Orchids in winter if there is sufficient light, conducive to the next year's growth and flowering, but also can improve the cold resistance of orchids winter.

Fourth, timely ventilation orchids like warm and need air circulation, fear smoke and dust pollution. In the north, people often heat stoves indoors, and there are many smoke and dirty gases indoors. At this time, the orchids should be kept away from the stove. At the same time, it should be around noon in sunny and warm weather, open the doors and windows for ventilation, or put the basin end to the outdoor shelter to see the sun, so that the orchid plants absorb fresh air. Orchids placed on closed balconies should also open windows to circulate air. When the temperature drops, the doors and windows should be closed immediately and the basin end should be placed indoors to avoid freezing damage to the orchid plant.

5. Prevention of pests and diseases. If orchids overwinter indoors or on closed balconies, when the temperature and humidity are slightly higher, once pests and diseases are found, they should be sprayed in time. Protective spraying should also be carried out at ordinary times, such as spraying pot soil, orchid plants and the surrounding environment with Bordeaux mixture, which can prevent or reduce the occurrence of pests and diseases in the following year.
