Growth habits of Tradescantia frutescens

The stem of purple dew grass is much branched, fleshy, purplish red, creeping in the lower part, often with whisker roots on the nodes, and nearly erect in the upper part. Leaves alternate, lanceolate, entire, base clasping and leaf sheath, purplish red below. Flowers densely borne on 2 forked inflorescence stalks, petals 3, blue-purple, broadly ovate.
