The stem and leaf are succulent, the leaf color is gray to gray-green, the leaf surface has a touch of white powder, the leaf tip will appear slightly pink in the sun, and the stem is strong. The white leaves are blooming like peonies, and the seeds are tough and numerous. There are red dots on the petals, flowering in spring.

The habit of White Peony

White peony is an intergeneric hybrid between Liriodendron and Saussurea. Like sunny environment, not cold-resistant, drought-resistant and semi-overcast.

The suitable growth temperature is 20-25 ℃, and the growth period is summer. Watering should be done once a week in spring and autumn.

The breeding method of sowing and cutting is adopted in family maintenance. Common diseases and insect pests are: rust, scale insects.

Maintenance skills of White Peony

Soil: change the basin once every two years, in spring, the basin soil is a mixture of peat soil, culture soil and coarse sand, plus a small amount of bone powder. Keep the potted soil dry. The necrotic old root can be cut off when changing the basin.

Watering: moderate watering in spring and summer and controlled watering in autumn and winter. Due to the high water content in the plant, white peony is easy to rot in an excessive wet environment, so remember to water too much, it is best to choose a basin with a drainage hole at the bottom. Beginners can choose red pottery pots with good air permeability when planting; glass containers are endothermic and poor breathable, so use with caution!

Fertilization: fertilizing once every two months during the summer growing period. A thin fertilizer dominated by phosphorus and potassium. Fertilization should not be too much, otherwise the plants will grow excessively and the leaves will not be red.

Lighting: the more sufficient the light is, the greater the temperature difference between day and night is, the brighter the leaf color is. When the temperature permits, it is best to put it outside for maintenance to ensure sufficient light. When the light is insufficient or the soil moisture is too much, the whole plant is light green or dark green, and the leaf sparse spacing elongates, which accelerates the upward growth, which seriously affects the ornamental property, and may even die because of the obstruction of plant photosynthesis.

Propagation methods of White Tree Peony

Leaf insertion: lay the complete mature leaves on the moist sand with the leaves facing up and back down, without covering the soil and placing them in a shady place. in about 10 days, leaflets and new roots can grow from the base of the leaves, and the root system can be buried in the soil. after that, let it bask in the sun and water properly, and gradually it will grow into a strong new plant.

Cuttings: tillering branches or top branches can be used, the length of cuttings cut is unlimited, but after the cut is dry, remove the lower leaves and insert them into the sand bed to avoid excessive water evaporation. Generally, it takes about 20 days to take root, and it can be watered after rooting. Before rooting, it is normal for the leaves at the bottom to dry and atrophy. The root system grows well, and water absorption is sufficient to regret the natural recovery. The soil should not be too wet, otherwise the cuts will turn yellow and rot easily. The pot can be changed when the root is 2-3 cm long, and ramet is best carried out in spring.
