Morphological characteristics of Nelumbo nucifer

Nelumbo nucifera is a perennial semi-shrub, much branched, often sprouting new buds from the lower part of the stem, forming groups.

The leaves are spoon-shaped, alternate and arranged in the shape of a rosette. The surface of the leaves is smooth and white. The front is gentle, the back is slightly raised, and the leaves are thick, emerald green or light green.

In the case of sufficient light and large temperature difference, the leaf tip will appear small red dots, and the leaf color will become light green or yellowish green, like frozen and transparent jade fat, hence the name condensed fat lotus.

There are two different forms of clotting lotus. One kind of leaf is narrow and long, the frost powder is less; one kind of leaf is wider, the frost powder is more, but these two forms belong to coagulated fat lotus.

Clusters of small white flowers with pink stamens bloom in spring.
