Organic agriculture has less harvest and needs more arable land. What should we do? It can not only improve the harvest of crops, but also has nothing to do with the problem of cultivated land. Let's take a look at it.

New research shows that organic agriculture may reduce the yield of some crops by 1 pound 3% compared with traditional farming methods. The study suggests that mixed farming with organic and traditional agriculture is the best way to feed the world's population without destroying the planet.

Organic agriculture seeks to limit the use of chemical pesticides and fertilizers. However, commentators believe that because of the low harvest, organic farming must have more arable land to achieve the same yield as traditional agriculture.

The study points out that this means that some forests and natural areas will be converted to arable land. As a result, the original environmental benefits of organic agriculture have been reversed.

The study, published today in the journal Nature, was jointly carried out by Canadian and American scholars. The study found that some crops were cultivated organically, resulting in a yield reduction of up to 34%. Overall, the crop harvest decreased by 25%.

The researchers found that fruit and oilseed crops performed best. In an ideal farming environment, the yield is only 3% lower than that of traditional farming. Traditional farming methods use chemical pesticides and fertilizers to help crops grow.

However, if cereal crops and vegetables are cultivated organically, the yield will be reduced by up to 1 × 3.

This study is contrary to the results of the literature. Past studies have shown that the yield of organic farming is equal to or even higher than that of traditional farming methods.

As the global population grows and the demand for food increases, high-productivity agriculture plays an unprecedented role and is becoming more and more important.
