Professor Thomas A. Gasiewicz of Rochester University Medical Center and others have found that green tea can fight cancer by affecting cancer-related proteins. These proteins are also the goal of new drug development. Green tea was previously thought to help humans fight against diseases such as breast and liver cancer, but the mechanism has not yet been identified. This result provides relevant scientific proof.

Professor Gasiewicz and Christine Palermo et al found that chaperone protein HSP90 is related to the protective effect of green tea. Other studies have found that many cancer cells grow rapidly at the concentration of HSP90 contained in healthy cells, while inhibition of HSP90 reduces the content of proteins that contribute to cancer cell growth.

At present, the research and development of many drugs, just like the role of green tea, is also aimed at inhibiting HSP90. Gasiewicz believes that we should be able to find new ways to regulate HSP-90 through green tea.

Gasiewicz is an expert on dioxin. His team has discovered how dioxin affects AH (aryl hydrocarbon) receptors, which are linked to turning on harmful genes and are one of the causes of cancer. They found that AH activity was inhibited by EGCG (epigallocatechingallate) in green tea two years ago. EGCG is similar to flavonoids (flavonoids) found in cabbage and grapes and helps prevent cancer.

"EGCG was expected to have an effect by directly binding to the AH receptor, but this is not the case," Gasiewicz said. "EGCG first binds to HSP90, which helps stabilize other proteins, while HSP90 fails to open the AH receptor, which in turn blocks the activation of many harmful genes.

Green tea can fight cancer, so can we often drink green tea? In fact, it is not possible, we should eat the right amount of food, then drinking tea is the same.
