Temperature of Cymbidium cultivation
Most of the orchids are native to the tropics or subtropics and must be cultivated to meet the temperature requirements. The adaptation of common orchids to temperature can be divided into the following four categories:
① year-round high temperature type (Wandai orchid, Phalaenopsis, stone orchid).
② has moderate temperature in winter and high temperature in summer (Cartland).
③ year-round medium temperature type (glossy orchid, Dong Selan).
④ has low temperature in winter and high temperature in summer (Cymbidium).
The required temperature range for most species is 15-22 degrees, but the suitable temperature for high-temperature orchids such as Wandai orchid and Phalaenopsis is 2O~28 degrees. However, low-temperature Cymbidium and other low-temperature orchids can still be cultivated at 5 ~ 10 degrees. The suitable temperature during the day is 15 ~ 20 degrees for low temperature species and 2O~25 degrees for high temperature species. Some special orchid species that like high temperature require higher temperature.
The cultivation of Cymbidium should pay attention to the freezing damage caused by the low temperature in winter. However, the excessively high temperature in summer will also have adverse effects on the growth of orchids. Therefore, in addition to high-temperature orchids such as Wandai orchid, Phalaenopsis and Dendrobium, the temperature should be controlled and kept cool in summer in order to make them grow healthily.
