The Law of Watering under Natural Conditions
"dry orchid wet chrysanthemum" shows that orchids like to be dry, in fact, orchids grow most directly in a dry but not dry moisturizing environment. The forefathers of Yilan in China said: "Spring is moist, summer and autumn is wet, and winter is moist and dry", which fully illustrates the reason why orchids require dryness and humidity in different periods.
Orchids generally require a relative humidity of about 40% to 65%. During the growing period, the relative humidity required by terrestrial orchids is 70%-80% during the day and 80%-90% at night. According to these scientific measurements, we should grasp the humidity requirements of orchids at all stages of growth, adjust measures to local conditions and manage flexibly.
The watering of orchids must be determined according to the pot soil, orchid species, weather and the texture of flowerpots. In general, water is watered once a day or several days in spring, once a day in summer, and once a few days or 10 days in autumn and winter.
The watering time in spring and autumn is straight in the morning; the hot period in midsummer should be before sunrise and sunset, and the sunrise can be the top in early winter and early spring, and boil water after the temperature is warmer. When entering the room for the winter, you must boil water around noon on a sunny day. However, care should be taken to avoid getting wet or pouring into the leaf sheath.
The water used for irrigation should be neutral. Rain Water is the best one to water orchids, followed by river water, pond water and well water. In cases where the above water is difficult to obtain, tap water can also be used; it should be put in a water tank to dry for many days before use.
Watering with a thin hole long neck sprinkler (commonly known as shower head) kettle watering is better. You can also use the immersion method, that is, dip the orchid basin into the water and let the water pass through the holes at the bottom of the basin and slowly infiltrate the mud layer. This method, although can make the basin mud absorb enough water, but if just flip the newly planted Menglan should not be immersed too deep, only the basin waist can be. Over-drying the mouth of the old basin, the soaking method to replenish the humidity is an ideal method.
Orchids can be caught in the rain. Clean Rain Water is most beneficial to the growth of orchids. Being caught in the rain can also clean the leaves. Light rain and light rain are the best rainfall. Heavy rain and torrential rain wash too hard; it will cause basin soil to harden, splashing mud to pollute the leaves, and even break the orchid leaves, so it should be sheltered during heavy rains and rainstorms. Avoid easterly rain in hot summer. If the basin soil is too wet, stay out of the rain for the time being. (Lin Qingde, Mu Wei)
