The photosynthesis of orchids is mainly due to the fact that their roots absorb nutrients and water from plants, leaves absorb carbon dioxide from the air, and their chlorophyll absorbs sunlight (light energy) and synthesizes carbohydrates in the body, that is, converting light energy into chemical energy and giving off oxygen. This continuous cycle, so that the development and growth of orchid plants, give birth to new plants, old plants are aging and death, metabolism, cycle, so that life extension and seed generation. Therefore, light is extremely important for the growth of orchids.

Orchids like the sun and avoid exposure.

Orchid is a semi-shady plant, it loves the sun, but avoid exposure. Long-day exposure is also disadvantageous to orchids, because orchids have a saturation point for light demand, and it is known from practice that it is also flexible.

The Ling Hai Lan Yan, written by ou Jinze in the Qing Dynasty, has already pointed out that "if there is more yang, the flowers are good, and if there is more yin, the leaves are good."in terms of ten points, seven points cover the sun, and one-third of the open air is enough!" Then he said, ". It is not easy to stay in the sun for a long time without scorching the end of the leaves. Recently, some people think that the shielding degree of the orchid shed is 60%, and four hours of light a day is enough, because after the light reaches the saturation point, better sunlight has no effect on orchids. However, some people think that after photosynthesis, it still needs to be supplemented by weak light.

The intensity of light requirement is also closely related to the chlorophyll of orchid plants. the more chlorophyll, the stronger the photosynthesis. The first step of photosynthesis is how to promote the production of chlorophyll, and the formation of chlorophylls can be achieved by applying more nitrogen fertilizer and giving trace elements that can promote the formation of chlorophyll, such as magnesium, manganese, iron and so on. At that time, after the formation of chlorophyll, it can promote the reproduction of the plant. In a word, the stronger the light is, the more fertilizer and water are needed; if the ventilation is better, it is more beneficial to the respiration and photosynthesis of the plant, and the faster the growth of the orchid plant.

Outdoor orchids must be shaded

After shading in the outdoor orchid shed, the light intensity of the well-growing orchid was 5000-10000Lux (lux, "rice candlelight"), and its germination rate, flowering rate, leaf and leaf color were good. At present, black plastic shading net (commonly known as black net) can be used to shade, and its specifications include shading 45%-50%, 70%-75%, 90% and other different models, and one or two layers can be used to control the desired degree of shading. The illumination of orchids outside and on the balcony is affected by the changes of sunny and rainy days, seasons, morning, noon and evening, and it is not as easy to control as indoor lighting.

Red and blue light tubes control illumination

It is known that plants absorb red light the strongest, followed by blue light, both of which are useful for photosynthesis. Red light can promote the growth of orchids, while blue light is indispensable for thickening stems and leaves, accelerating plant development and regulating stomatal opening. Ultraviolet light and ultraviolet light mainly form anthocyanins and inhibit the elongation of branches and leaves. Too strong ultraviolet light will burn orchid leaves, so the short wave tube of ultraviolet light is not suitable for the time being. Indoor cultivation can be controlled by a mixture of red, blue and white light tubes, and pink and purple plant light tubes sold in fish shops can also be used.

The experimental results show that the luminosity of cultivated orchid can be 5000 lux, line art orchid 4000 lux, narrow leaf orchid, Qiuhui, Chunlan, etc., can use 10000 lux.

At present, 40 watts of pure red light tube (main wave length 642 nm) and pure blue light tube (main wave length 472 nm) and ordinary daylight tube are used to maintain 20 watts of light. Because the light intensity is inversely proportional to the square of the distance from the light source to the leaf surface, that is, the closer the distance is, the stronger the luminosity is, so the distance of the light tube can be adjusted to control its distance. The orchid can be placed 25 cm away from the light tube, 25 cm away from the line art orchid, and 10-12 cm from the narrow leaf orchid. Some orchids are cultivated 2 cm away from the light tube without burning orchid leaves, and the effect is also good, which shows that orchids need light and have flexibility.
