The design of the orchid room
The orchid room is generally only used as a winter shelter for local orchids, and it can also be used as an exhibition room to display famous species during flowering. Terrestrial orchids do not have high requirements for temperature. in general, the room temperature can be kept at about 10 ℃.
1. The location should first choose a place with high dryness and ventilation toward the sun, preferably toward the southeast, and a variety of trees or high walls on the north side of the room, so as to block the cold north wind. The orchid room should be built in a corner of the garden or in front of dense trees so as to avoid the cold wind and not hinder the view of the sun. In addition, we should also pay attention to the far-high chimneys to avoid the damage of gas and soot to orchids.
2. The form and structure of the orchid room are heavy, which can be divided into three types: ordinary tile house, glass greenhouse and simple monoclinic box against the wall. Attention should be paid to heat preservation and ventilation during construction, so the structure should be tight and heating equipment should be laid to adjust room temperature.
The traditional orchid rooms in China all adopt tile houses with strong warmth or houses with flat roofs of mud. If you use a glass greenhouse, the room temperature should not be too high (the most ideal is about 15 degrees). According to modern practical experience, overwintering in a glass greenhouse, bluegrass grows stronger than ordinary orchid rooms because of good temperature and humidity, but it is necessary to strengthen window ventilation, otherwise soda droplets condense too much in the glass roof, easy to drop and leaves cause rot or scorch. As for the summer orchid, autumn orchid, cold orchid and orchid, because they require a slightly higher temperature than Chunlan and Huilan, it is best to use a greenhouse for the winter when conditions permit.
In order to maintain indoor humidity, ancestral gravel should be laid on the surface under the orchid platform of the special orchid room, so as to eliminate the leakage of water in the daily watering process and maintain a certain degree of humidity. As for the cement floor, it is not ideal because it is not easy to drain and separate the earth from the ground.
The size of the special orchid chamber can be determined according to the number of pots and development prospects. The length, width and narrowness of the orchid platform can also be flexibly arranged according to the indoor area, but it is always convenient to operate, ventilated and transparent. If amateur orchid breeders are limited by living conditions, they can use outdoor facing south to the sun along the wall, one side borrows the wall, and the other three sides are built with bricks into a single oblique ground box, the area depends on the number of pots. On top of his box, oblique lid flexibly closed wooden frame glass window or plastic film window. The long and tall orchid leaves should be placed on inverted empty flowerpots or folded into bricks, strips, and cement boards of appropriate height, and the low ones are arranged forward row by row, so that the tips of all leaves or the top of the ring leaves cannot touch the window. During the cold season, whenever the temperature is too low or on a snowy day, the sloping windows must be covered with grass curtains or other covers sufficient to prevent the cold from invading. When the weather is fine, especially after the Beginning of Spring, when the sun is shining, the cover from the cold should be removed as soon as possible. Near noon, the window at one end of the wall is placed with wood blocks or other objects, exposing a gap of more than an inch. If the weather is sunny and windless, all the windows can be removed or half-closed to exchange fresh air. When the sun is deflected, it is good to keep the internal temperature and avoid the cold air.
3. The heating equipment is mainly installed in a few cold days, when the temperature is too low, in order to ensure the necessary temperature for the normal growth of orchids.
(1) Open fire this is the easiest method and is suitable for amateur orchid farmers or areas with few benefits, as well as areas with limited conditions. When in use, first set the brazier in the appropriate place in the orchid room. Before heating, put some cold ash at the bottom of the container, such as using a ceramic fire tank, the ash layer should be thicker. Then put the burning carbon base into several, and then add a layer of unlit carbon base, according to the heat, continue to add; you can also use bulk carbon to burn in a brazier to heat up. But this method, because of the flames, the duration is short, must be guarded by special personnel, and should stay away from the orchid, so as not to burn the bluegrass.
(2) the heater uses hot water in the boiler room to emit heat through the pipe. Due to the mechanical control, the appropriate temperature can be adjusted at any time, and the heat dissipation is uniform, so the drying phenomenon is not easy to occur in the orchid room, so it is the most ideal heating equipment, but the cost is high; it is only suitable for large-scale greenhouse. When there is a home heating or heater, you can use it to make the orchid safely through the winter and kill two birds with one stone.
As for modern air conditioning and all kinds of electric heating. Infrared heaters and other devices are very beneficial to the development of orchids. If there are conditions to use them, nature is the best. (song Shi)
