Chinese tourists illegally brought into ham sausages from Nanjing, China, and tested positive for African classical swine fever virus. Is this true?

The Animal and Plant Disease Prevention and Quarantine Bureau said today (10) that two cases of African classical swine fever virus genes were detected again in Chinese pork products brought into the country by peach machine passengers. The Bureau of Prevention and Inspection said that this is the 11th and 12th case of African classical swine fever virus gene detected in illegal meat carried by passengers since October last year.

According to the Prevention and Inspection Bureau, the two cases of pork products were ham sausages imported from Nanjing by Chinese passengers on December 28 last year, and Harbin red sausages brought back by Chinese tourists. Both men entered the country from Taoyuan Airport and were seized by the Hsinchu Branch of the Prevention and Inspection Bureau. They have each been fined 200000 yuan, and the meat has not been destroyed after sampling.

The Prevention and Inspection Bureau said that from the increase in the amount of fines imposed on passengers illegally bringing meat into the country on December 18 last year to January 9 this year, a total of 50 cases, 89 cases and 15 cases of 200000 yuan were fined nationwide. The Prevention and Inspection Bureau reiterated the principle of not bringing meat and not buying foreign meat online to send to Taiwan, and violators will be severely punished, reminding the public not to defy the law.
