Selection of basin

To cultivate orchids, in addition to open field cultivation, in order to facilitate management and appreciation, we need a suitable container, which can not only play a beautiful role, but also meet the requirements of orchid habits. Here are several common flower pot materials:

1. The tile basin is fired with general clay billet, which has high hygroscopicity, strong air permeability and good drainage, and is often used for potted flowers and trees. It is red if the water has not been printed when it is fired. Crisp texture, after years of use, the basin surface is often natural refutation, not durable, poor firmness; another kind, is printed wood, is grayish black, the texture is more solid than red. There are many forms of tile basin, such as open, high floor, small bottom and so on. The caliber ranges from 5cm to 30cm. Although this kind of basin is cheap and good, it is not beautiful because of its appearance. If it is used for indoor viewing or exhibition, it should be covered with a bowl with beautiful form and suitable color, so as to set off the beauty and charm of the orchid.

2. The porcelain basin is made of porcelain clay, with fine texture and bright color, such as blue and white, Baolan, all red, all white, milky yellow, bean green and ice grain. The forms are trumpet mouth, bucket square, signature Jane, drum shape, round bowl shape, crabapple shape and polygonal shape and so on. This kind of porcelain basin, because the texture is compact, the air permeability is poor, and it is not easy to distribute water, so it is generally used as a decorative cover basin.

3. The glaze basin is first made of clay, and then fired with colored glaze on the outside. Its color is glossy and colorful, such as uniform glaze, white glaze, blue glaze and so on. There are many forms, such as decals, semi-glaze, color painting, relief and so on. It is the most commonly used thing in orchid pots.

4. There are purple sand, red sand, white sand, black mud, iron sand and pear skin mud in sand basin. The forms are Golden Bell style, Begonia Edge shape, pot bottom shape, trumpet mouth and so on. Sand basin has quaint color, solid texture and strong air permeability than porcelain, glaze and other flowerpots, so it is one of the pots widely used in the art and orchid world. Especially Yixing purple sand basin is widely used in Guolan cultivation.

Although each of the above orchid basins has its own characteristics, the most widely used ones are sand basins and glaze basins. The form of the basin is the trumpet-shaped, high-waist open round basin, pot bottom round basin, golden bell type, etc., because after the basin is round, the orchid stamens, no matter where they are born, can be changed as a front ornamental, without affecting the beauty of the basin form. The root of orchid is a report of good air quality, which should have an environment of air permeability and strong water discharge, so the basin floor should stand high in order to strengthen air convection. The height of the basin foot is generally 3-5 cm, and the diameter of the discharge hole at the bottom of the basin should be 3-5 cm.

The root system of Cymbidium is thin and short, and trumpet-shaped and round basin can be used, while the root system of Cymbidium is thick and long, so it is suitable to use high-waist gold bell-shaped, deep pot bottom round basin or high-deep polygonal basin. Other geophytic orchids are more sturdy and dense, and should be planted in large, deep or round pots, and straight should not be small, so as to have sufficient soil volume and facilitate root system expansion.

In the cultivation of orchids (that is, orchids), in order to make the report lines and plants grow and develop fully and bloom well, it is best to use larger pots to cultivate orchids, while the cultivation of orchids with goods leaves is just the opposite. in order to promote the variation of its leaves, its growth must be restrained. Therefore, it is better to use small, high and narrow pots.
