Selection of plant materials for Cymbidium
Traditional cultivation of ink orchid often uses pond core mud. Dry the fish pond in winter; take the mud from the middle of the pond to dry and chop it into thumb-sized blocks. After drying, the pond core mud has good water absorption and water retention; it is not easy to harden and not easy to compose, and has a good fertilizer effect. Currently planted large pots of ink orchids are also useful for this material.
Modern cultivation of small potted magnolia uses light hard materials. Such as ceramsite, Pulyland, Japanese blue stone, volcanic stone, water pumice, dried bark of fern root (snake wood), Tangji blue soil, weathered coarse sand pebbles, burning soil, and so on. There are also those who use water moss for temporary planting, mixed planting material, or protective decoration for basin cover. Some planted in large areas are planted with mixtures such as coarse sand, humus, water moss and sawdust to reduce costs.
The above plant materials are often selected as mixed plant materials. Generally less use a single plant material, but according to local conditions; local materials, based on their own experience to prepare their own accustomed mixture. (Yan Xueliang)
