Orchids should be raised in accordance with local conditions, and the use of materials must not be changed. If we do not pay attention to the differences of the respective orchid cultivation environment and change the orchid planting materials at will, it will inevitably bring serious consequences. I have learned a profound lesson because of this. I will write out the process for your reference, so that new and old friends can get something out of it.

On a rest day in the autumn of 1999, I went to the local Lanyou's house to enjoy the orchid. Lan you is a construction engineer in his thirties. In his spare time, he loves to collect and cultivate Liuan orchids. His orchid margin is very good. At present, he already has a variety of Liu'an Huihua wonders in his hands, which is very promising. As soon as I entered the door of his house, I found that hundreds of pots of Chunlan Xiahui seedlings in the courtyard had strong white roots, green and delicate roots, and there was no black spot at the end of the leaf root, which was lovely. In addition to envy, can not help but ask the host for advice. Lan you was busy peddling his "experience" to me, and pointed to a pile under the tree in front of the door and said, "I am poor with this kind of plant." When I looked carefully, I found that this pile of plant material was made from a mixture of soil, furnace ash, sawdust and metasequoia leaves, with fine and fertile grains. Because we are good friends. After a few days, I took the rickshaw to pull back some snakeskin bags, turned the basin and replaced them all with this kind of plant. After the warm flowers in the spring of 2000, new buds broke out one after another. By the Meiyu season, some of the new grass had grown into plants, and I was very happy. Who knows, with the hot summer coming at the end of the plum season, black spots began to appear on the leaves of Chunlan new grass, and then spread to some of the old leaves, and even some of the leaves of Cymbidium also had black spots. In the face of this situation, it is useless to think of all the ideas and exhaust the methods. Can only play the role of scissors. In order to prevent further aggravation of the disease, I strengthened water control in the autumn, resulting in withered root tips, withered leaf tips, and all the flower buds of Chunlan withered. Dozens of pots of Cymbidium blossomed only one pot of ordinary flowers this spring.

I have made a careful analysis of this matter and think that the main reason is the misuse of plant materials without taking into account the different environments of orchid cultivation. The Lanyou family lives in a bungalow on the outskirts of the city. Orchids are raised in a large courtyard of more than 50 square meters. Cherry trees and persimmon trees with big beads are planted in the south and west of the courtyard. Branches and leaves can cover a small half of the yard. Under the tree is the dirt ground; there are deep underground pools and wide ditches built in the middle of the courtyard, which are partly covered by precast cement slabs; the north and east of the courtyard are divided into cement floors. The orchid friend put most of the orchids under the trees and by the water, shaded by leaves and cooled by pool water; there is no smoke pollution during the day and dew moistens at night. Lanyou often overflows his and ditch water, allowing the orchid basin to absorb water naturally, so there is almost no need to water in spring and summer. I said to Lanyou, "your orchid environment is superior to nature." Therefore, he uses that kind of plant material to match this kind of environment, of course, there will be no problem. On the contrary, my environment of raising orchids is much worse than it. My family lives in the east second floor of the city. Orchids are raised on the platform connected to the south balcony of my house on the first floor, with an area of less than 20 square meters. The plum monsoon is slightly humid, the summer is warm and muggy, and the autumn wind is strong and dry. And because it is located in the old new village, the community management is poor, the surrounding downstairs is full of big stalls, and the air pollution is serious. Only a five-meter-high checkered wall is built around the platform, which is shaded by a shade net in summer and no wind shield in autumn. In the past, I planted orchids with self-made plant material, which was made up of vegetable garden owner (humus) plus furnace ash and a little river sand. Although the environment was poor, I could grow grass year after year and bloom continuously. The effect is not hesitant to use Lanyou's plant material this time, after the high humidity and high temperature of plum season and summer, the plant material is too fine and too fat, plus it is placed in the open air, Rain Water is drenched, the geothermal is often steamed, and the root is uncomfortable, which must be reflected in the leaves. It was a mistake. In autumn, there will be continuous autumn rain, and water control will be strengthened for fear of recurrence of old illness. as a result, when a dry wind blows, the root tip will be withered, the leaf tip will be withered and the flower buds will be damaged. this is another mistake, which is called adding to the mistake. Looking at so many pots of half-cut orchids, enduring no concern about orchids participating in the exhibition, the past is really unbearable to look back, the lesson is profound. Fortunately, I found the crux of the problem, changed the plant material in time, reformed the orchid platform and added shading and wind shielding facilities. I believe that my Chunlan Xia Hui will surely grow luxuriantly in the future, and the fragrance of flowers will continue to grow. (southern Zhu)
